The Secret Forest Yorkshire – A Magical Woodland Adventure for the Whole Family
Open every weekend and bank holidays from April through to the end of September, The Secret Forest is your gateway to a world where imagination stretches as tall as the trees.
During peak times, the magic lingers even longer, with special openings for May Half Term (Saturday 23rd May – Friday 29th May) and Summer Holidays (Saturday 18th July – Sunday 6th September, (Wednesday to Monday). Plenty of time to step into something extraordinary.
Tucked within 77 acres of enchanting woodland in the grounds of a real castle, The Secret Forest is a natural trail designed for curious minds and adventurous spirits. From the moment you arrive, the ordinary world begins to fade, replaced by winding paths, whispering leaves, and the promise of discovery around every corner.
As you journey along the trail, stories begin to unfold. Legends of the forest come to life through hidden details, playful clues, and the charming homes of mystical folk who dwell among the trees. You’ll encounter the tale of Sir Vavasour, uncover secrets from years gone by, and stumble upon tiny villages where fairies and Bogglins are said to live. Keep your eyes sharp, magic often reveals itself when you least expect it.
Venture deeper and you may find the witch’s house. Is she home? Only the brave will dare to peek inside… but be warned, her grumpy cat keeps a close watch on unexpected visitors.
This is not just a walk in the woods, it’s a full-bodied adventure where children become storytellers, explorers, and heroes of their own tale. The Secret Forest is designed to let imaginations run gloriously wild, with each twist of the path offering something new to climb, solve, or discover.
Scattered throughout the trail are play areas packed with fun, from climbing frames and slides to hands-on spaces that invite creative play. Step into Sir Vavasour’s Castle, explore the magical fairy castle, weave your way through the willow tunnel, or lose yourselves in the winding labyrinth. There’s even a sand pit for budding builders and plenty of space to roam, laugh, and let off steam.
Don’t forget to take on the treasure hunt challenge. Search carefully, gather the hidden clues, and unlock the dragon’s name. It’s a quest that adds an extra spark of excitement and a sense of achievement for young adventurers.
When it’s time to pause, the Broomstick Café is ready to welcome you. Refuel with a selection of hot and cold snacks, drinks, and treats designed to keep energy levels high for the next round of exploring. Whether it’s a quick bite or a well-earned rest, it’s all part of the experience.
The Secret Forest isn’t about screens or schedules. It’s about fresh air, muddy shoes, wide eyes, and stories that grow richer with every visit. It’s a place where families can slow down, reconnect, and share in something genuinely magical.
So gather your explorers, follow the trail, and see what secrets the forest is ready to share with you…
