Lappa Valley Steam Railway
Newquay, CornwallAbout Lappa Valley Steam Railway
Lappa Valley is Cornwall’s Secret World of Play and Trains — a unique family attraction where your adventure begins the moment you arrive. Step aboard the train at our car park station and journey into a hidden world filled with play, adventure, discovery, and unforgettable family memories.
Located near Newquay, Lappa Valley is designed for families to spend quality time together, with a huge range of activities included in your admission. From exciting train rides and outdoor adventures to indoor soft play and peaceful places to explore, there’s something for every member of the family to enjoy — whatever the weather.
One of the things families love most about Lappa Valley is that your ticket includes all main activities, meaning you can relax and enjoy the day without worrying about extra charges. It’s all part of our ‘pay once and play all day’ experience, giving families the freedom to ride, play, explore, and make memories at their own pace.
At the heart of Lappa Valley are our three unique railways, each offering a different adventure. Our Main Railway takes families on a scenic journey through the valley into the park, while the Lakeside Railway offers a charming miniature railway experience around the adventure play areas. The Newlyn Downs Branch Line adds another exciting adventure, taking visitors on a journey through beautiful surroundings aboard one of our smaller trains.
For many children, the trains are where the magic begins. Watching steam locomotives arrive at the station, hearing the whistle echo through the valley, and waving to passengers as the trains pass by all become part of the experience. Whether it’s their very first train ride or one of many visits to Lappa Valley, families often tell us these moments become treasured memories for years to come.
Lappa Valley is also one of Cornwall’s best all-weather family attractions. At the centre of the park is The Engine Shed — our large indoor space home to a fantastic multi-level soft play area and café. It means the fun continues whatever the forecast, making Lappa Valley the perfect destination for sunny summer adventures, drizzly days, or family visits outside of the main holiday season.
Children can climb, slide, crawl, and explore across multiple levels of indoor play, while grown-ups can relax nearby with great coffee and freshly prepared food from our café. The Engine Shed has become a favourite part of the experience for many families, offering somewhere warm, welcoming, and full of energy all year round.
Our café serves a range of delicious home-cooked meals, lighter bites, sweet treats, and drinks, making it easy to settle in and enjoy a relaxed family meal during your visit. Large windows overlook the play areas and surrounding surroundings, helping create a calm and enjoyable environment for parents, grandparents, and carers while children continue the adventure.
Outside, there’s even more to discover. Families can enjoy a wide range of outdoor play areas designed for different ages, giving children plenty of space to climb, slide, swing, balance, and explore. From imaginative adventures to energetic play, there’s something around every corner to capture young imaginations.
Visitors can also take to the water aboard our popular pedalo swans, enjoy friendly competition on our 12-hole accessible adventure golf course, or try their hand at our 10-hole Frisbee Golf course. Younger visitors love exploring the toddler’s path maze, while trampolines and woodland walks add even more opportunities for outdoor fun and adventure.
What makes Lappa Valley especially unique is the atmosphere. Families often describe the attraction as somewhere they can truly slow down and spend meaningful time together. Without the pressure of rushing between activities or additional costs throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a more relaxed experience — whether that means another train ride, one more turn on the pedalos, or simply sitting together with a coffee while children play.
Our railways and attractions are surrounded by an oasis of conservation where wildlife and nature thrive. Throughout the park, families can enjoy peaceful walks, open spaces, and moments of quiet alongside the excitement and adventure. It’s part of what makes Lappa Valley feel so special to so many visitors.
Lappa Valley has been welcoming families for generations and continues to create magical days out for visitors of all ages. From toddlers experiencing their first train ride, to grandparents sharing memories with younger family members, every visit becomes part of a much bigger story.
We’re proud to have become one of Cornwall’s favourite family attractions, earning awards and recognition for the experiences we create and the warm welcome visitors receive from our team. Our friendly staff are always on hand to help families make the most of their day, whether that’s assisting with accessibility, helping little ones aboard the trains, or simply sharing in the excitement of the adventure.
Accessibility is incredibly important to us, and we continue to invest in making Lappa Valley welcoming and inclusive for as many families as possible. Facilities including accessible train carriages, family-friendly amenities, and accessible pathways help ensure everybody can enjoy their visit comfortably.
Dogs are welcome too, meaning even four-legged family members can join in the adventure across much of the attraction.
Throughout the year, Lappa Valley also hosts a range of special events and seasonal experiences, bringing even more excitement to the park. From character visits and family entertainment to spectacular seasonal celebrations, there’s always something new to discover alongside our much-loved everyday adventures.
Whether you’re planning a full family day out during your Cornwall holiday, looking for somewhere to make magical memories with younger children, or simply searching for a brilliant all-weather attraction near Newquay, Lappa Valley offers a truly unique experience.
From the moment you board the train to the final wave goodbye at the station, every part of Lappa Valley is designed to help families spend quality time together, discover new adventures, and create memories that last long after the journey home.
We’d love to welcome you on board.

Children can climb, slide, crawl, and explore while grown-ups relax nearby with great coffee and freshly prepared food. It’s the perfect place to warm up after outdoor adventures or cool down on sunny days, and gives families somewhere comfortable to enjoy throughout their visit.

Because everything is designed around families spending quality time together, you can move between activities at your own pace without feeling rushed.

Pay Once and Play All Day
A day out at Lappa Valley is designed to feel easy, relaxed, and great value for families. With our ‘pay once and play all day’ admission, all main activities are included in your ticket — meaning no hidden extras and no constant reaching for your wallet throughout the day.
Families can enjoy unlimited train rides, indoor soft play, outdoor play areas, pedalos, adventure golf, Frisbee Golf, trampolines, woodland walks, and more, all included as part of the experience. That freedom allows visitors to truly settle in and enjoy the day at their own pace, whether that means riding the trains again and again, returning for another turn on the pedalos, or simply letting children play for hours.
Parents and grandparents often tell us how refreshing it feels to visit an attraction where the focus is simply on spending quality time together rather than paying extra for every activity. It creates a much more relaxed atmosphere where families can make the most of their visit without pressure or time limits.
Whether you stay for a few hours or the entire day, Lappa Valley offers a packed family adventure with incredible value and unforgettable memories included from the moment you arrive.
