Kennet Horse Boat Company
Hungerford, BerkshireAbout Kennet Horse Boat Company
Kennet Horse Boat Company is a small, family run (and family friendly) business offering traditional canal barge boat trips, and private charters. Experience the magic of gently drifting along the Kennet and Avon canal in a horse drawn barge, or explore yourself in their self-drive motor barge.
Escape the madness of modern life and take a nostalgic journey that allows you to experience the slower pace of yesteryear, and soak up the beautiful surrounding countryside. The public horse drawn trips last from 2 to 3 hours, and are available daily between Easter and September. The passenger boat was built in 1976 and is 20.4m (67ft) long, and 3m (10ft) wide, and powered solely by one of the 2 wonderful Shire horses, Freddie and Monty (you will adore them!). If they have seats spare, you can just hop on, but it is generally a good idea to book if you want to guarantee a seat.
Another way to experiences one of England's best canals, is on a self-drive narrow boat experience on the traditional style 9m (30ft) long Cygnet, which can take up to 8 people. It is available to hire for most of the year, and offers great visibility, and the passenger area can be opened up to enjoy the fresh air.
Whether you choose the public or self-drive option, you and the kids are sure to have an unforgettable experience!
