A visit to Inigo Jones Tudor Slate Works includes a self-guided tour and is both educational and fun.
There is an introductory video presentation, after which you can wander through the workshops at your own pace and view the machines and craftsmen in action, accompanied by your own personal taped commentary.
There are also Geological, Historical, Calligraphy and Letter Cutting Exhibitions. Try your hand at calligraphy and engrave on a piece of slate that you get to keep. Children can also compete in a quiz to win a slate prize!
Interactive Activities and tour around functioning Slate Works
Commencing an informative film delving into the Welsh Slate story, experience blasting of the raw material at the mountain to the end use of Slate all around us.
Following the film and guided by a personal audio device, wander through exhibitions of geology and history whilst also partaking in Calligraphy and Letter Cutting activities, shaping your very own Slate Memento.
The tour continues at a leisurely pace through the original workshops, where guests can view the machines and craftsmen in action.
The Great Slate Tour - Self Guided Tour of the Welsh Slate Workshops Audio Commentary is available in French, German, Spanish, Chinese or Japanese for overseas visitors as well as English and Welsh.
Younger visitors can attempt our Quiz during the tour to win their very own Slate Prize!
Slate Craft Products made on site are available to purchase at the showroom along with other Welsh and Celtic Craft products.
Our café which is franchised to a local farmer who also has a butchery and farm shop adjacent to the café, is open year round to serve our visitors.
