Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Isle of AngleseyAbout Plas Newydd House and Garden - National Trust
Tiny tots, teens, grandparents and pooches you're all invited to explore Plas Newydd House and Gardens! Scope the beautiful gardens and the historic house, uncovering military relics and tunnel bridges as you go. There's lots to explore here!
Christmas at Plas Newydd
Get ready to jingle all the way to the dance floor this Christmas at Plas Newydd’s ever-popular Silent Disco. Everyone’s invited so swap your reindeer antlers for headphones, put on your dancing shoes, and get ready to celebrate the festive season in style.
Enter the house where a twinkling 9-foot Christmas tree will be waiting to greet you, and head to the Music Room, where the 5th Marquess of Anglesey, fondly known as the ‘Dancing Marquess’ once held his own Christmas parties - our dancing styles may have changed over the last 100 years, but it's still a great place for a party. So put on your best festive outfit, choose your music – whether it’s 90s pop or Christmas hits - and get ready to dance the day away under a rainbow of disco lights.
Once you’re all danced out, grab a hot drink and festive treat from the Old Dairy Café and enjoy a peaceful stroll through the scenic garden, woodland and parkland, and soak up the breathtaking views across the Menai Strait and onto Eryri (Snowdonia) – they’re at their very best with a sprinkling of snow or glistening with frost. Don’t miss the chance to snap a family selfie in the Courtyard too, where a 7-foot wreath and 100 golden stars provide the perfect backdrop.
Things To Do At Plas Newydd House and Garden
Family fun is no.1 on the agenda, right? So it's a good thing there are plenty of fun family activities to try out with your little ones. From Rex Whistler's iconic 58-foot mural to 40 acres of impressive gardens and 129 acres of woodland!
Get your sporting hats on and try out the frisbee golf course - there are acres of garden to practice your throws and catches. There are lots of various woodland walks, too, including a mesmerising marine walk along the Menai Straits.
Got some nature lovers in the family? Plas Newydd is a great place to spot red squirrels, so bring your binoculars and scour the treetops to see if you can spot one. They can be spotted throughout the woodlands, particularly in Church Bank Wood and along the edge of the Menai Strait.
The historic house is the home of the Marquess of Anglesey and offers spectacular views of Snowdonia! It is one of the UK's finest mansion house settings and features emotive exhibitions in the military museum. Browse relics from the Battle of Waterloo or find out what life was like for the family back in the 1930s. Take a first-hand look at Rex Whistler's largest-ever painting.
Plus, the museum has the world's first articulated wooden leg, and you can visit a historical room that has been left untouched since the 7th Marquess's untimely departure! Fine fuel for imaginative kids, dusty antiquities…
Plas Newydd offers an unbeatable adventure, fantastic views, extensive woodland walks, beautiful scenery and one of the prettiest houses in Wales!
