Inverness, The HighlandsAbout Dundreggan Rewilding Centre
The Dundreggan Rewilding Centre is the first of its kind in the world and is located just eight miles from the shores of Loch Ness in Glenmoriston. Since 2008, rewilding charity Trees for Life has been rewilding the 10,000-acre Dundreggan Estate to restore the Caledonian forest and its wildlife, with fragments now expanding and flourishing. Wildlife is returning, natural ecosystems are thriving and more people can now explore this special landscape rich with biodiversity.
Free to enter, the Dundreggan Rewilding Centre celebrates rewilding and the region's rich Gaelic culture with family-friendly activities and events for all ages and abilities. Visitors can explore the visitor centre, enjoy Rewilding Walks, hunt for wildlife in Minibeast Hunting and Pond Dipping sessions and take part in special workshops and events such as Bushcraft, Tracks and Signs, Woodcraft and Mythology Walks.
Dundreggan is also the home of Trees for Life’s tree nursery where around 100,000 rare and native trees are grown every year including Scots pine, aspen, birch, willow, rowan, juniper and oak. Visitors can take guided Tree Nursery Tours to learn more about the growing and planting process as well as the plants, trees and animals that share this incredible environment.
A network of footpaths meander throughout the estate with paths ranging from easy and all-access to steep and strenuous and offering opportunities to spot wildlife such as golden eagles, red squirrels, pine marten, wood ants and dragonflies.
The little ones can enjoy running around our outdoor play area and playing with the interactive interpretation and screens indoors.
Facilities at the Dundreggan Rewilding Centre include free parking, accessible entrances, toilets and parking spaces, baby changing facilities, electric vehicle chargers and a café offering a selection of nutritious, seasonal salads, savoury pastries and soup of the day as well as cakes, traybakes, ice cream, snacks and drinks sourced from local suppliers. We are also dog-friendly and love welcoming your furry friends to the Rewilding Centre.
