Explore Scotland's wild forest and experience rewilding in action

The Dundreggan Rewilding Centre is a unique place rich in natural and cultural heritage. Bringing people and nature together through immersive experiences for all ages and abilities, the centre is a gateway to Dundreggan’s rewilded landscape brimming with wildlife and Gaelic culture.

The rewilding charity, Trees for Life, has been rewilding Dundreggan since 2008 to restore the Caledonian forest and its wildlife. The estate is now home to more than 4,000 species of plants and animals, including many rare and protected species, and the charity’s tree nursery where around 100,000 trees are grown every year.

Visitors to the Rewilding Centre can explore ancient pinewood, discover centuries of Gaelic history and connect with a landscape undergoing transformation through rewilding. Multi-sensory, hands-on activities are available for all ages and abilities including forest walks, tours of the tree nursery, pond dipping and scavenger hunts, as well as specialist workshops to learn more about bushcraft, foraging, and much more.

We are the world's first Rewilding Centre

The Dundreggan Rewilding Centre opened in April 2023 and is the world’s first rewilding centre. Located in Glenmoriston just eight miles from the shores of Loch Ness, the Rewilding Centre celebrates rewilding and the region’s rich Gaelic culture, and offers a gateway for exploring the 10,000-acre Dundreggan estate.

The Rewilding Centre encourages visitors to ‘rewild’ themselves and connect with nature. A network of footpaths, ranging from easy to strenuous, meander through the landscape, offering visitors of all abilities an opportunity to spot wildlife such as golden eagles, red squirrels, wood ants and pine martens, see rewilding in action and experience what makes Dundreggan so special.

Get up close to nature and Dundreggan's wildlife

Kids can take part in minibeast hunting and pond dipping sessions to learn more about things that creep, crawl, slide, scuttle and swim around the hidden habitats of Dundreggan and they can also explore our footpaths to spot lots of wildlife and run around our outdoor play area.
