Attraction Information
It's wild and isolated during most of the Abriachan Trails, but hey: that's why they like it! A proper adventure hike of semi epic proportions this 3 hour (ish!) trek will take you 5.5 miles through glorious woodland and moorland, offering millions of mini beasts and great views en route.
Quite near the start you'll find a stop point to pause and make your plans, where there are loos, picnic tables and loads of trail maps and information on the walk ahead of you, complete with the several shot cut options you can use if little legs are getting tired: so a good one to pay attention to!
Still fairly early on in the trail you will also encounter a kids' play fort near a reconstruction of a bronze-age hut, so a great combination for some historical role play games! Just by this there is also a dragonfly pond so there are lots of pleasing things to see and do and you go along.
You'll wind up the Carn na Leitire to its 434m summit for some terrific views and then you can take an aside from the main track (it's signposted, don't worry) and stop by at the reconstruction of a whisky still, plus it all culminates in excellent views of Loch Ness and access to further way marked Abriachan Forest Walks.
All in all it's a great adventure if you've got the legs for it, and to keep yourselves comfortable and safe you just need to be sure you've got the right kit bag for the day's weather potentials and remember that you're frequently a long way from refreshments etc: so pack well!
