About Craft Nurseries Play Barn Soft Play
Craft Nurseries is a small, local, family run business for 2 generations. We opened The Play Barn in early 2019 with a view to offer a much needed soft play for our local area. Giving our visitors the opportunity to enjoy great facilities without having to venture into Colchester or Ipswich town centres.
We are perfectly situated to serve visitors from Essex and Suffolk but also have many who come from further afield or whilst on holiday - simply because we're a fantastic soft play!
We have plenty of free parking and are a wheelchair friendly site. Although we only allow working dogs in and around The Play Barn, we are dog-friendly in our Garden Centre and main Restaurant & Coffee Shop.
The Play Barn has a smaller enclosed play frame for toddlers with a larger 2-tier play frame for older children up to age 8 years old (depending on the child).
We can accomodate up to 120 visitors per play session and have open play Mon-Fri Term-Time 09:30-15:30.
On weekends we run 3 play sessions on a Saturday; 09:00-11:30 / 11:45-14:15 / 14:30-16:45 and 2 play sessions on a Sunday; 10:00-13:00 / 13:00-16:00.
We have a brilliant outdoor play area to compliment our indoor soft play which has a giant bouncy pillow, mud kitchen, pygmy goats, rabbit and witches wood.
Our venue has state of the art air conditioning which keeps our vistors cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Our ticket prices are competitive and we don't charge you more during school holidays; Adult £3.00 / Child (2 years and above) £7.00 / Younger Child (6-23 months) £3.50 / Baby (0-6 months) FREE.
We also run Princess Events and Disco's during the school holidays with our trusted providers Glass Slipper Entertainment and Kieran’s Disco.
We run or own arts and crafts sessions fortnightly on a Monday with free songs, stories and colouring pages. With optional main craft activity for just extra £3.00 per child.
We also run a baby group every first Thursday of the month with lots of singing, instruments and sensory play only £3.00 per baby wit a free sensory gift to take home.
Our onsite Play Barn Cafe serves locally ground barista coffee, speciality teas, full hot and cold lunch menu, cold drinks, cakes and pre-packaged snacks.
We pride ourselves on providing a healthier menu so we don’t deep fry any items.
If you do fancy a bacon buttie or some chips, we also have a main restaurant in the garden centre where you can eat in or take-away to The Play Barn.

We have an online booking system which facilitates the purchase of tickets for our Play Sessions and Events.
If you create an account when booking online, your future booking process will be quicker and you have the ability to transfer your tickets to an alternative date / time.

We have a fantastic online booking system where you can book your tickets and if you create an account, you can also rearrange your tickets to an alternative date / time if needed.
Bright, colourful, clean and fully air-conditioned venue
We pride ourselves on high levels of cleanliness throughout the entire venue including the play frames. After daily deep cleaning has been conducted, we use Nilbac High Blast Spray to completely sanitise all surfaces overnight.
We have both natural and artificial lighting which gives the venue a light and airy feel with a brightly coloured soft play and seating area.
