Beaumaris Castle
Beaumaris, Isle of AngleseyAbout Beaumaris Castle
Beaumaris Castle on the Island of Anglesey is the great unfinished masterpiece built as one of the 'iron ring' of North Wales castles by the English monarch Edward I. It's pleasingly atmospheric and grand visit for all ages, but especially so for those with an interest in fortresses or preparing work for school, as there's such a rich wealth of details to gotten here.
Technically perfect and constructed according to an ingenious ‘walls within walls' plan, Beaumaris Castle was the 13th-century hi-tech equivalent of a spaceship landing unceremoniously on Anglesey today! There were 14 separate major obstacles an enemy would have to overcome to take this castle, including the moat (still full of water now!), murder holes and hidden arrow slits!
There are 3 or 7 day explorer passes available to give your family free admission to all the historic sites in the care of Cadw! Excellent for filling out a holiday! And of course there's plenty to do locally as well, particularly if you all like the outdoors!
