About Wimbledon Sprinkler Park
Escape the city and head to Wimbledon Park - one of Merton's largest and most loved green spaces, and home to one of London's best free family days out. Whether you're chasing the kids through water jets or lounging on the grass with a picnic, there's something here for every member of the family - and it won't cost you a penny to get in.
The Splash Pad
The star of the show for little ones is the interactive splash pad, open each summer from June through to September. With water jets, misters, fountains, and interactive buttons and levers that let kids control the flow, it's the kind of water play area that keeps children entertained for hours. There are six paddling pools and two interactive play areas, so even on busy days there's plenty of room to splash about. Parents can settle on the surrounding grassy areas and keep a relaxed eye on the fun.
The Lake and Watersports Centre
One of Wimbledon Park's most impressive features is its large lake - and it's not just for looking at. The Wimbledon Park Watersports and Outdoor Centre runs a full programme of activities on the water from March through to December, including kayaking, sailing, and paddleboarding. It's a brilliant add-on to a splash pad visit for older kids or teenagers who fancy something a bit more adventurous - and a great reason to make a full day of it.
Sports and Activities
The park is packed with things to do beyond the water. There are 20 tennis courts bookable via the ClubSpark app, a bowling green, a beach volleyball court, an athletics track, an adventure golf course, and two football pitches. The Capital Ring walking route also passes through the park if you fancy stretching your legs after all that activity.
Food, Facilities and Getting There
The Wimbledon Park Cafeteria is on site for drinks and snacks, and there are toilets throughout the park including accessible NKS Radar toilets. A car park is available on site, and the park is also well served by public transport - Wimbledon Park tube station (District line) is just a short walk away.
One thing worth knowing before you visit: the splash pad season dates can shift slightly year to year, so it's worth checking the Merton Council website for the confirmed opening date before you travel.
Free Fun All Summer Long
Wimbledon Sprinkler Park is completely free to enter - no tickets, no booking, no catch. Just turn up, let the kids loose on the water jets, fountains, and interactive splash features, and enjoy one of London's best budget-friendly days out. With six paddling pools and two interactive play areas, there's plenty of room for everyone even on the busiest summer days.
More Than Just a Splash Pad
The water play might be the headline act, but Wimbledon Park has a full supporting cast. Tennis courts, beach volleyball, adventure golf, an athletics track, a bowling green, and a watersports centre on the lake - there's enough here to fill a whole day without spending a fortune. Pack a picnic, grab a coffee from the on-site café, and let the kids pick their next activity.
On the Lake, Not Just by It
Wimbledon Park's large lake isn't just a pretty backdrop - it's home to the Wimbledon Park Watersports and Outdoor Centre, running kayaking, sailing, and paddleboarding sessions from March through to December. Perfect for older kids and teenagers who want something more adventurous after the splash pad, and a brilliant reason to make this a full family day out rather than just a quick visit.
