Sherwood Forest Railway is home to the only Narrow Gauge Steam Railway in Nottinghamshire, and it's in miniature! A real steam railway, reduced to 5 eighths scale, with 5 locomotives, and 7 coaches, plus signals, level crossings, and a tunnel, all perfectly recreated in a smaller size, which the kids will absolutely love!
The fantastic little railway is a family concern that runs with the help of hardworking volunteers and enthusiasts, and is constantly being updated and improved, so keep any eye out for changes if you visit more than once! Visitors of all ages will enjoy the journey, with plenty of trackside ornaments to look out for along the way, plus the chance to stop for a few minutes at the scenic end of the track. Here, you will also get the chance to see the engine up close, and find out what all the interesting levers and valves do before you complete the return journey.
A great way to rediscover the charm of shining brass and the smell of steam, with a collection of small, but perfectly formed steam locomotives, and hear the whistle blow when you ride in the wonderful, historical coaching stock.
To make the day even more memorable they also offer free of charge an adventure play area, under 5's play area, and a picnic area. They offer drinks and refreshments at very reasonable prices, or you are welcome to bring a picnic.
Birthday and Santa Special rides available too!

Lovely couple of hours 4 out of 5 stars
Had a lovely couple of hours at this tucked away railway today, my 2.5yr old loved the miniature train ride, there was lots to keep him occupied in the play areas with playhouses, slides, cars etc and we even went on the zip wire together. Yes the toys aren't in new condition but that didn't bother him or us. We stayed for a picnic and there are plenty of tables to sit at in the various play areas. For £2 on the train and the rest for free it was definitely £2 worth spending! Thank you volunteers for using your time to keep this place going! We all had a lovely morning.Mcook1
It was ok 2 out of 5 stars
Me, partner and our daughter came here yesterday. Beautiful surroundings but rather disappointed with the train journey. There were lots of lovely ornaments to look at but the journey was around 2 minutes of actually being on the train.. where we read it would be a 15 minute journey. The train stopped up the other end for a few minutes where you could get off.. but you were not allowed on the grass so the only place you could go was stand in the bus shelter! Bit disappointing. In the under 5s play area it was just filthy dirty push along bikes and bits that has been crammed into a small space. Over all not too impressed. A big build up when reading the description then to be quite let down!Mummyof1
