Nunny's Farm
Grimsby, LincolnshireAbout Nunny's Farm
Nunny's Farm is a community based petting farm located in the centre of a housing estate in Grimsby. It is set in 5 acres of field surrounded by houses, so it comes as a surpise to many visitors just how calm and tranquil it feels even though we are right amongst the community.
The farm is located on an old school playing field behind the previous school premises which is now a community centre.
As a not-for-profit organisation, the building of the farm has been a continual process, and relies on the funds received from admission costs, donations and sponsorships. Most of our current buildings are temporary sheds, gazebos or marquees. During 2023 the farm was significantly affected by flooding, and a number of grass pathways around the farm were damaged. To futureproof the farm for winters to come, there are now paths of road planings around the worst affected areas, so that pushchairs and wheelchairs can still access the site. The aim will be for a hard surface route around the whole farm to be in place for the wetter months, and the grass pathways for the drier seasons. If the weather has been inclement it is advisable to wear boots or wellies and not your favourite white trainers.
The aim of the farm is to provide visitors with access to farm animals, and the environment, to provide; space for reflection, education around animals and food growing, and to create opportunities to improve the mental health of the community.
Nunny's Farm has animals ranging from rabbits and guinea pigs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, sheep, goats, pigs, ponies, donkeys, through to Highland Cows and alpacas, and more species of animals will arrive as we grow and expand our offer.
The animals on the farm are mostly rescued from slaughter or unwanted pets that owners can no longer care for. We are not connected to a large commercial farm like most other petting farms, so all our animals remain with us for life. We do not breed animals for meat or dairy so you will not be able to bottle feed lambs with us, and we rarely have chicks or ducklings.
The animals at the farm are socialised and all are friendly and able to be petted and fussed, most can be fed with our animal feed available at the entrance. The relationships built with the animals over time is very rewarding, and for regular visitors it is a lovely feeling to come back and fuss the same animals.
There are options to adopt an animal species, the profits go towards the costs of running the farm, and the upgraded package includes a personalised plaque located on the farm for 12 months showing your support.
1-1 encounters, animal experiences, birthday parties, holiday clubs, parent & toddler group are some of the other activities the farm provides.
There is an onsite team-room serving plant-based hot and cold food, lovely cakes and drinks and a marquee for covered seating, where we host birthday parties and other group events. Picnic benches are also provided for visitors bringing their own refreshments.
The farm has a gift shop with toys, and gifts to remind you of your visit.
Planing permission has been approved for a permanent building which will house a new tea room, farm shop, office, and seating with windows looking over the farm. Our aim is to raise the funds required for this build by Dec 2025. If you would like to know more or wish to support the farm, please visit our website for further information.
New for 2024
Our brand new childrens nursery has opened Nunny's Little Farmers Ltd for children from 2yrs. What better way to start your childs education than in a farm setting where they are surrounded by nature and animals every day.
Friendly Socialised Animals
Our animals stay at the farm for their whole lives so they build close bonds with the staff and regular visitors. We do not breed animals for meat or dairy. We rescue animals and give them a better life.
Amazing Staff and Volunteers
The staff and volunteers are committed to the animals in our care, and love to talk to visitors about the animals and how much joy they bring to people.
Great experiences & events
To raise awareness of the farm, our animals and to provide opportunities for visitors to engage with them, we provide experiences from 1-1 encounters through to a full day as a farmer in training. We provide events throughout the year themed with characters from children's tv series through to visits from Farmer Christmas himself.
