Lacock Abbey
Chippenham, WiltshireAbout Lacock Abbey
Loved by film and TV, the home to photography and an 800 year old medieval cloister; Lacock Abbey, Fox Talbot Museum and Village lays claims to all these achievements, as well as all sorts of fun for families.
The site is a 13th-century abbey which has taken many guises over the years and is now yours to explore. The woodland and parkland would be great for a proper stomp around and, if the weather is kind, a picnic in the orchard.
A seasonal programme of nature trails, craft activities and play and discovery stations are suitable for all the family and often included in the cost of admission. The photographic negative was invented at the abbey in the 19th century, and many of the activities have a shutter-bug twist: kids can try their hand at creative photography themed activities or just discover more about how photography was invented in the Fox Talbot Museum. There's also a giant walk-in Camera Obscura to offer a different perspective of the grounds!
Now we hinted at it earlier on, but both Lacock Abbey and village have featured in many a well-loved film or tv series. See if you can recognise where they filmed Harry Potter, or where the family of Downton Abbey had their most noteworthy showdowns.
