Depot Climbing Manchester
Manchester, Greater ManchesterAbout Depot Climbing Manchester
We are the UK's biggest bouldering centre, bringing modern climbing to the North West in a bright and spacious indoor environment.
Bouldering is a style of climbing that does not involve ropes or a harness, climbing at lower levels and relying on matting underneath the wall to aid with the risk of falling. Our walls are up to 4 meters high and the matting does not guarantee your safety, so roped climbing may be more suitable if you have reservations about the risks involved in bouldering.
We opened our doors on the 2nd of January, 2015 and have developed and expanded our wall to become one of the UK’s largest and most comprehensive bouldering walls, with almost 4 thousand square meters of floor space and over 350 boulders for all abilities. We also have an expansive training area for experienced climbers and a large 45-degree cave roof that is 15 meters in length, containing 15 routes for those looking for more than your average boulder.
Our centre has a cafe and kitchen, both creating hand-crafted refreshments and fuel for your visit, so you can enjoy a relaxing space and for climbers of all backgrounds and abilities to socialise and integrate into a wonderful climbing community.
All directions and our address can be found on our Contact Us page of the website.
We have a free-to-use car park with 60 spaces, however, this does fill up quickly. There are also 2 disabled parking spaces close to the main entrance, if you have any issues with parking using the disabled spaces, our friendly team will be happy to help find a suitable space.
We have secure storage for bicycles inside the centre, and are just a short walk from the Media City UK tram stop, and can also be reached via buses x50 and 250 from Manchester.
We offer discounted entry to students and concessions on selected days and offer a Family Pass for those with young climbers.
You can find all the details of our pricing information on our website. We ensure our prices are competitive and provide you with the best value; from climbing alone and with friends to instructor-led sessions.
All visitors need to check in to the building at our reception desk, whether they are climbing or not. If you have any specific accessibility needs, please let us know how our team can help and if you’d prefer, we welcome a call ahead of time so that we can make your visit as comfortable as possible.
Our reception desk is found immediately upon entering the centre and if you are visiting us for the first time, our friendly team will help get you set up and registered. If you have any questions, don’t be shy, our teams love to help.
Regardless of whether you are climbing or supervising, all of our visitors are required to sign a registration form (found here) and answer a few quick safety questions from our staff.
If you’ve climbed at other centres, but have not visited a Depot Climbing centre, you will still need to register and answer safety questions.
Under 18’s must have a registration completed by a legal parent or guardian.
Down climbing holds are identifiable as they have a red arrow pointing down on them, and we endeavour to put up as many of these as possible around the centre to aid with safely descending the walls.
Our centre is accessible via wheelchair, with easy access to the main climbing areas, toilets, changing rooms and cafe area.
The majority of our centre is situated on one level, however, the main way into our training area is not currently accessible via wheelchair, as it involves the use of two sets of stairs. If you require wheelchair access to this area please let the team know and they can assist you via another door into this unit.
Please note that wheelchairs are not permitted on the matting in our centre.
We have accessible toilets positioned around all areas of the centre, with the main male and female toilets and changing rooms situated just a short distance from reception.
A gender-neutral disabled toilet can be found directly opposite reception, which has an accessible doorframe and an emergency chord to alert staff if you need assistance. A second disabled toilet is located in the training area.
Male and female changing rooms are situated next to the main toilets immediately left of reception.
There are cubbies and lockers available for safe storage of your belongings, but you will need to supply your own padlock and ensure that no belongings are left overnight. Storage can be found opposite the main toilet/changing room areas, in the N7 training area, opposite the comp wall area, and in both changing rooms.
Any items of personal property left in the centre will be held in our lost property collection for up to two weeks, upon which they will be donated to charity.
Our induction video is fully subtitled for any deaf or hard-of-hearing climbers and has a voiceover for blind and partially sighted climbers.
This can be watched at the centre or in advance via our website. All participants will be required to watch the video before participating.
We have placed wayfinding maps with ‘you are here’ location pins to aid in navigating. If you require assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask a member of staff who will be happy to help.
We ask you not to walk on the mats if you are not climbing, and food, drinks and wheel/pushchairs are not permitted on the mats.
Fire exits are marked around the centre so you will never be too far from a safe exit in case of emergency. Emergency lighting will light any emergency exit pathways and our fire assembly points are located in the car park at the front of our centre and in the car park to the rear of the training unit.
