Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre
Spilsby, LincolnshireAbout Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre
Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre will give kids a real sense of history as it is the only Airfield Museum on the country that has been recreated to its original design on an original WW2 airfield.
You really get the atmosphere of what is would have been like during wartime and also to see the rare Avro Lancaster Bomber NX611, which regularly performs 4 engine taxy runs. You may want to plan your visit to coincide with a Flying Day, so you can see the plane and landing strip in action. Check online for the calendar of events held during the year.
It is possible to have a taxy ride yourself, but booking is essential as rides get booked up very quickly!
The Hangar, as well as being the home of ‘Just Jane” (the bomber), is also full of equipment, wartime photographs separated by squadron, plus an original Wallis Bouncing Bomb. You can visit the restored Control Tower, which many say is haunted, and there is also an RAF Escaping Society collection, which is a tribute to all those who helped airmen who had crashed in occupied Europe.
Home of only 4 running Lancasters in the world and the only running Mosquito in Europe
