The Yard, Edinburgh is home to adventure and play for disabled children and young people. It’s a wonderful resource of emotional and practical support for families, as well as fun and friendship for everyone involved.
Kids can get creative in two fantastic play areas. Outdoors there are swings, go-karts, trikes, huts, sand pits, a brilliant sensory garden and loads of natural materials to play with. Inside you’ll find musical instruments, arts and crafts, dressing up, a fully equipped kitchen and a calming sensory room. There’s something fun for every ability and all visitors are supported.
What makes this such an outstanding experience is the staff. They’re a specialist bunch who guide and inspire kids as they play. They work with over 2,000 disabled children and young people (aged 0-25) every year and understand every one of them deserves a unique day out. Family sessions and youth clubs are on offer for members, and the centre is open to the public every Sunday. Children must also be accompanied by a parent or carer.
