Inside the T Rex -How a Predator Was Built
A Live 90-Minute World First Science Experience for Families (Ages 6+)
This half term in Birmingham, families are invited to step inside one of the most extraordinary predators in history.Inside the T Rex is a live, immersive science experience that takes audiences beneath the surface of Tyrannosaurus rex to discover how evolution engineered the ultimate hunter. Presented in a dramatic yet welcoming theatre setting with a unique hands on element, this 90-minute event combines expert-led explanation, large-scale visual demonstration and interactive science to create an experience that is both exciting and educational.
At the heart of the production is a full-scale, scientifically recreated T Rex. This impressive centrepiece allows families to explore the anatomy of this iconic dinosaur in a structured and engaging way. Rather than focusing on spectacle alone, the show examines the science behind the creature, how its bones supported its weight, how its muscles powered movement, and how its extraordinary bite force made it one of the most formidable predators of its time.
This is not a theme park attraction and it is not a horror experience. Inside the T Rex has been carefully designed to be suitable for children aged 6 and above. There are no graphic elements, no jump scares and no frightening effects. Instead, the emphasis is on curiosity, learning and discovery in a format that keeps children engaged while remaining accessible and comfortable for families.
What Can Families Expect?
The 90-minute experience unfolds like a live science documentary brought to life. Guided by experienced science presenters, audiences are taken on a journey through the evolution, anatomy and survival mechanics of the Tyrannosaurus rex.
Throughout the show, families will explore:
How evolution shaped the T Rex over millions of years
How its skeletal structure supported immense size and strength
The mechanics of its jaw and bite force
How its muscles and balance systems enabled movement
What made it such an effective apex predator
Using clear explanations, physical demonstrations and large-scale visual aids, the presenters break down complex biological concepts into fascinating and accessible ideas. Children are encouraged to ask questions, think critically and see how science explains the natural world.
A Safe and Structured Environment
Parents often ask whether an experience focused on dinosaur anatomy will be frightening or unsuitable for younger audiences. Inside the T Rex has been created specifically with families in mind. The environment is theatrical but welcoming. Lighting is dramatic on stage, but the venue remains comfortable and appropriate for children. The T Rex model is presented as a scientific specimen rather than an aggressive creature. The focus is educational, not sensational.
There is no graphic content. The exploration of anatomy is handled in a documentary-style format, similar to what you might see on family-friendly science television programming. Children who enjoy dinosaur documentaries, museum exhibits or science workshops will find this experience both engaging and inspiring.
Interactive and Engaging
Inside the T Rex is not simply a lesson. It is designed to be dynamic and for you and your children to take part. Throughout the event, families will witness live demonstrations that help explain key biological principles. Children are nvited to contribute to simple, safe experiments that illustrate ideas such as balance, force and strength as well as testing food contents and investigating teeth to determine diet. Participation is always optional and supervised, ensuring children feel comfortable.
The aim is to move beyond passive viewing and encourage genuine curiosity. By the end of the event, children will have a clearer understanding of how this incredible animal functioned and how scientific research allows us to reconstruct life from millions of years ago.
Created by Experienced Science Presenters
The team behind Inside the T Rex are experienced science teachers who specialise in bringing complex biological topics to live audiences. Having contributed to educational events and science programming on both BBC & Discovery Channel, they are passionate about making learning memorable and accessible.
The tone of the show is informative, confident and engaging similar in style to high-quality documentary broadcasting while entertaining at the same time. Parents can feel reassured that the content is structured, researched and delivered with care.
Why This Experience Is Different
There are many dinosaur attractions and exhibitions available, but Inside the T Rex stands apart by focusing on how the animal worked.
Rather than simply showcasing a dinosaur model, the event explores:
The engineering of its skeleton
The biomechanics of movement
The evolutionary pressures that shaped its body
Its diet and when it ate
Its teeth and ability to hunt
The scientific methods used to understand extinct animals
It is an opportunity for families to explore real science together and for children to see how biology, physics and evolution connect in powerful ways.
Suitable for Ages 6+
The experience is recommended for children aged 6 and above. The content is structured to be engaging for primary school-aged children while still offering fascinating insights for parents and older siblings. Children under 6 are welcome at parental discretion, but the scientific focus and 90-minute format are best suited to children who can follow a narrative explanation and engage with interactive demonstrations.
