A large seaside town, perfect for a quintessentially British family day out - there are many fun things to do in Southport!
There are a number of beaches to choose from in the area, the closest of which to the town would be either Ainsdale Beach or Lytham St Annes. Ainsdale is four miles out and features the oldest iron built pier in the country. The soft sand and village backdrop make for a quaint, relaxing afternoon out.
Just a couple of miles over at Lytham St Annes, children will love the renovated Victorian pier, donkey rides, ice cream parlours and green spaces. All of which add to the old-fashioned charm of a Southport family day out.
Take a leisurely walk along Southport Seafront, or travel in style on the Lakeside Miniature Railway that runs alongside the Marine Lake. If you like trains, the Model Railway Village will be a big hit with locomotive enthusiasts of all ages!
But if the sea or lake is too chilly for a dip, then Dunes Splash World offers undercover waterpark fun. Relax in the bubbling spa, shoot down the rapids and pick your favourite out of the five awesome flumes.
Southport Pleasureland is home to traditional family theme park fun. Right on the beach children can dust off the sand from between their toes and step right onto their favourite ride! Have a go on a go-kart, win a prize at one of the stalls and make sure to eat your ice cream before it melts!
