The Story Museum is a most unusual museum in the heart of Oxford. With the aim to enrich lives, especially young lives, through story!
The Museum was established to ensure that everyone can enjoy and benefit from engaging with great stories and create stories of their own in a place full of wit and wonder.
The Story Museum Oxford is not your average museum. Here, the stories come alive! Immersive exhibitions allow children to step into the world of their favourite tales, igniting a love for reading and storytelling. It's a gallery space filled with imaginative exhibitions and where the line between reader and story blurs, creating an unforgettable adventure.
Things To Do
Step into The Portal, where you'll be guided on a journey through a fictional universe. There are over 1001 stories for you to explore in their unique and wonderful way.
Here you can rediscover nursery rhymes, children's story history and even a film experience too!
Venture into The Whispering Wood where you can immerse yourself in a forest of trees that all tell a story or have a secret to reveal. You'll find live storytelling and so much more!
The Enchanted Library
Fall into the rabbit hole and into a world where characters leap off the pages. This interactive exhibit lets children meet some of their favourite characters from beloved books. It's also a dedicated space for younger children as well as a 100-seat theatre, a learning studio and a temporary exhibition space.
Small Worlds
Welcome to a patchwork land of picture books, nursery rhymes and traditional tales for the little ones. There are 5 story themed zones you can explore. From the Bear Hunt and Traction Man's under-sink world to the Night Safe, Story Bus and Winnie and Wilbur's miniature theatre!
Also, The Story Museum Oxford delivers an extensive public programme, including skills courses, workshops, drop-in activities and access visits for those wanting to enjoy the Museum in a more relaxed way, alongside a programme of funded community and school participation projects with targeted groups. The Museum attracts up to 100,000 visitors a year!
Food & Drink
Need a break? The Story Café offers delightful treats and a cosy space for families to relax and discuss their favourite part of the museum.
From freshly prepared meals and homemade dishes to cakes and bakes. Munch on pasties, sip on soup and nibble on sweet treats.
