Attraction Information
The Pitt Rivers Museum offers free drop-in family events and object handling opportunities that take place on the first Saturday of every month, every Sunday and during school holidays.
Kids can also join in with an assortment of family trails (aimed at under 5s) that you can pick up a map at the information desk or download in advance to save yourselves some time. There's also a free family guide book you can borrow, along with a torch for the darker corners!
It is famous for the period atmosphere and outstanding collections of archaeological and ethnographic objects from many world cultures, past and present. From Hawaiian feather cloaks to Japanese Noh masks, from decorated moccasins to African pottery, you'll find all sorts of fascinating things to study and discuss.
The entrance to the Museum is through the Oxford University Museum Natural History on Parks Road, and once you're inside you'll need to walk across the ground floor to reach it. It's worth noting that unfortunately the Museum has limited open space and no cloakroom.
You can bring buggies etc as they try to accommodate everyone as they are very family friendly. They also can't offer parking on site but there is on street parking locally plus a wealth of Park and Ride facilities operating in the immediate vicinity.

Mesmerising from start to finish 5 out of 5 stars
I have never been as equally in awe of something as my kids - the dinosaur skeletons, the whale, the butterfly case - and then the shrunken heads!!! It's an incredible collection of amazing stuff and so worth the visit.
