Attraction Information
Hartshill Hayes Country Park, covering 137 acres of woodland and open hilltop has magnificent views across the Anker Valley and is a lovely place to take a family ramble especially if you're going to brave the bees and picnic it up!
Activities for the kids (other than hiking of course) include the adventure playground, geocaching and the Rich Woodland Walk audio trail. There's also a visitor centre with facilities and information about the area.
The site recently received the Forestry Authority's 'centre of excellence' award and so it's also a nice scenic spot to go Geocaching! That's where you use GPS on your phone to locate hidden treasures - so be sure to take some little notes and treasures of your own to swap out with and familiarise yourself with how to use the phone programme. It's good fun and it keeps the kids happy and mentally stimulated while getting the exercise you've actually taken them out for!
They also offer a great range of seasonal activities to join in with, ranging from hedgerow harvest walks and woodland festivals to the cool Moth Night and Moth Breakfast sessions, where you creep out at dusk together and set friendly moth traps then meet back in the morning for a group brekkie and to see what types you've caught in the night!
