There’s plenty of fresh fruit ripe for the picking at the family-run, Manor Farm Fruits! Located in a picturesque village in the West Midlands, Manor Farm Fruits is situated just outside of Birmingham and lies between Staffordshire and Tamworth.

With a total of 55 acres of soft fruit, Manor Farm Fruits has 17 acres of strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants and blackberries designated specifically for ‘Pick-Your-Own’ during the summer months as well as selling ready-picked blueberries and rhubarb. And what’s more? There will also be a brand new Maize Maze opening at the end of July!

Canalside Farm, Staffordshire

Canalside Farm produces over 40 tonnes of strawberries and raspberries per season – how crazy is that?! That means the farms need your help to pick lots of delicious treats from their luscious vines.

There are two varieties of strawberries in total: Mailing Centenary (superb flavour with a conical shape, usually ready by mid-May) and Elsanta (aromatic, glossy, succulent strawberries with outstanding flavour. They will be ready to pick throughout the Summer until September).

The strawberry plants are easily accessible as they are waist high, so all ages can get involved with fruit picking. This farm is also wheelchair-accessible and pushchair-friendly.

What is the best season for strawberry picking in the UK?

Britain’s strawberry season kicks off in early May, reaching its peak in June and July. And if the weather remains sunny and blissful throughout the Summer, you’ll be able to pick delicious red berries well into August and even September!

How long do strawberries last after picking?

Depending on how you store the strawberries they can last 3 -4. It’s best to keep them in the fridge once picking to help them last longer!

What should I do after I've picked strawberries?

If you haven’t eaten your strawberries already you can store them in the refrigerator. They are best eaten fresh though so make sure you are only picking as many as you will eat, otherwise you will be wasting your money as well as your food.

How do you clean picked strawberries?

You can wash your fruit at home in a water and vinegar bath. This mixture will remove any bacteria and will put off moulding for longer. This mixture is made up of 1 cup of vinegar, 9 apple cider vinegar or white vinegar) and 3 cups of water. Let them soak for 20 minutes then thoroughly rinse the berries with water after you’ve taken them out of the mixture to remove the vinegar.

Will strawberries ripen after being picked?

No, once picked strawberries will no longer continue to ripen, so don’t be fooled into picking the green ones, thinking that they might last longer.
