What is the best season for strawberry picking in the UK?

Britain’s strawberry season kicks off in early May, reaching its peak in June and July. And if the weather remains sunny and blissful throughout the Summer, you’ll be able to pick delicious red berries well into August and even September!

How long do strawberries last after picking?

1-2 days

What should I do after I've picked strawberries?

If you haven’t eaten your strawberries already you can store them in the refrigerator. They are best eaten fresh though so make sure you are only picking as many as you will eat, otherwise you will be wasting your money as well as food.

How do you clean-picked strawberries?

You can wash your fruit at home in a water and vinegar bath. This mixture will remove any bacteria and will put off moulding for longer. This mixture is made up of 1 cup of vinegar 9apple cider vinegar or white vinegar) and 3 cups of water. Let them soak for 20 minutes then thoroughly rinse the berries with water after you’ve taken them out of the mixture to remove the vinegar.

Will strawberries ripen after being picked?

No, once picked strawberries will no longer continue to ripen so don’t be fooled into picking the green ones, thinking that they might last longer.

We hope you have found the ideal spot for strawberry picking in Birmingham to take your little ones on a beautiful Summer Day. Strawberry picking really is the perfect day out during the school holidays. You’ll be outdoors getting fresh air and eating fresh and healthy food, while also meeting friendly staff. And let’s not forget about the additional farm experiences like meeting animals and Maize Maze for kids. Many farms on our list had farm shops and farm cafes so you can fill your family day out with lots of rest and more locally sourced treats.
