Lee Valley White Water Centre is the only venue in the UK where families can raft the same Olympic-standard white water course used in the 2012 Games. Located in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, it's within easy reach of London and offers a range of water activities for ages 8 and above.
For families, Family Rafting on the Legacy Loop is the headline activity. Up to five people share a raft (maximum two adults and three children aged 8 to 16), guided by an instructor down Grade 3 rapids. The session lasts 90 minutes and costs £260 per raft. No experience is needed.
Older participants aged 12 and above can tackle White Water Rafting on the full Olympic course, taking on Grade 4 rapids with drops, waves and fast-moving water. Rafts hold up to nine people. Off-peak sessions start from £58 per person; peak sessions from £68.
If the rapids feel like a step too far, the lake activities are a brilliant alternative. Explore Kayaking, Explore Paddleboarding and Water Wipeout (the inflatable obstacle course on the lake) are all £17.50 per person and open to ages 8 and above. No previous experience is required for any of these.
All activities are timetabled. Book your chosen session in advance to secure your preferred time. For more active family days out near the venue, take a look at things to do in Waltham Cross and Enfield on Day Out With The Kids.
