Redpoint Beach
To get to Redpoint drive to Lock Gairloch and then take the single track coast road south to Badachro and Opinan, passing woodland coves and bays with rocky foreshores. Follow the road around a rocky headland which gives way to a bay of bright red sand and shingle, backed by sea eroded, odd shaped dunes. On a clear day you can see the Isle of Skye form here.
Rarely will you see big crowds here even in the height of summer, which is a surprise given the natural beauty of the area and unusual sand, the safe swimming beaches (though no lifeguard cover) and remarkable skyline of multi-peaked mountain pinnacles of Beinn Alligin and Liathach across the loch. It's a truly stunning place with over 16,000 acres of land looked after by the National Trust for Scotland, and a wealth of birds and wildlife to be seen.
It's very isolated so there are no nearby amities or facilities, so pack the kit bag well!
