Cross the world's highest aqueduct
Glide calmly across Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, suspended between sky and river. This isn't a quick photo stop; you'll paddle the full length of the structure as part of a 2.5-hour journey along the Llangollen Canal.
This 2.5-hour guided canoe tour takes you along the Llangollen Canal in Denbighshire, culminating in a paddle across Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the highest navigable aqueduct in the world. Suitable for families with children aged 8 and over, the experience is led by experienced guides who share insights into the canal's engineering and natural surroundings as you travel.
You'll paddle through calm stretches of waterway, building confidence and rhythm before the main event: crossing the aqueduct itself, suspended high above the River Dee. The canal's winter clarity attracted the BBC's Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, testament to the quality of the water and wildlife that thrives here year-round.
The tour departs from Llangollen town centre and covers a full journey along the canal, not just a quick crossing. Guides explain how the waterway works as you move through quieter sections, with the aqueduct forming the highlight rather than the entire route.

Led by experienced guides, the tour is designed to feel unhurried and immersive. You'll learn how the canal works, settle into the rhythm of paddling, and move through quiet stretches where the landscape slowly unfolds.
This is time on the water, not a quick turn-back. Over 2.5 hours you'll paddle the full route along the Llangollen Canal, where the aqueduct becomes part of a bigger story rather than the whole thing.
The base at Riverbanc includes an award-winning café, free WiFi, and toilets with showers. The dog-friendly café is ideal for warming up after your paddle, and there's an on-site hotel if you're making a longer stay of it.
The tour is open to participants aged 8 and above. If your party is fewer than 4 people, call the office to check availability before booking.
