Nature Walks and Hikes

Spring is the perfect time to explore the outdoors, and taking a nature walk or hike with your family is a great way to do it. You can explore local hiking trails, and national parks or even take a walk through the nearby botanical gardens to enjoy the beautiful scenery. It’s a perfect opportunity to teach kids about plants, animals, and the environment while getting some fresh air and exercise.

They can even gather flower petals or fresh flowers, pine cones, a four-leaf clover (if they’re lucky!) or other items to add to a nature collection! It’s one of many light-hearted and super fun activities for spring that everyone can get involved in.

Grab your rain boots if the weather isn’t that great because you can’t shy away from a little rain!

Visit a Farmer's Market

Spring is the time of year when farmer’s markets start popping up, so why not take the family out for a fun and educational day trip? You can browse the home-grown food stands, taste the delicious fresh produce, and meet the farmers that grow them!

Plus, it’s a great way to teach your children about where their food comes from and the importance of eating fresh and healthy. You might even get to see some adorable animals if you visit a marker on an actual farm!

Why don’t you get a bird feeder too? So you can watch the birds from your back garden!

Spring Cleaning and Decluttering

We know this is an odd one to involve because what kid likes cleaning?! But Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be a chore, as long as you turn it into a fun activity!

Maybe have a competition to see who can fill a box up with unwanted toys the quickest? Or reward them with treats if they clean one section of their room at a time. It doesn’t have to be sweet treats, but it’s an incentive to help declutter your space!

They could even have a splash-tastic time cleaning the windows if you let them have a water fight afterwards before bathtime!

It’s also an excellent opportunity to teach them about responsibility and taking care of their environment.

Arts and Crafts

Spring is the time when the world is bursting with colour, so why not bring that into your home with some fun and creative crafts for kids?

There are tons of easy and inexpensive spring-themed crafts and art projects that you can do with your kids. Such as making paper flowers, painting birdhouses or creating nature-inspired art that embraces the spring theme! Like flower suncatchers using flower petals – or flower art. It’s a creative way to develop their motor skills as well as provide that perfect activity for kids.

You could even make a bug hotel! Encourage the fuzzy bees to come along to your garden. They’re very important to our ecosystem, so lots of flowers will attract them!

Spring Scavenger Hunt

Outdoor activities are a simple and effective way to help your kids get that well-needed fresh air and physical exercise! And a hunting game is just the trick to make the outside seem super fun and exciting.

You can start by making a list of all the things you can find in your garden or nearby park and go on a scavenger hunt with the kids. Some ideas could include a bird’s nest, a butterfly, a specific type of flower, etc. Maybe even have a hidden treasure at the end of the hunt…

If the warm weather makes an experience, that makes the day even better! You’re sure to have a wonderful time and it can become your annual family tradition!
