It’s a time of new beginnings and fresh starts. So, why not introduce some new family activities or spring time traditions that you can carry out every year? We have lots of ideas for you – take a look!
Spring Activities
Outdoor Sports and Games
There’s no shortage of outdoor activities and games you can play with the whole family. You can also head to a nearby park for a game of catch, pack an outdoor picnic lunch or even a kite flying competition.
The possibilities are endless.
Nature Walks and Hikes
They can even gather flower petals or fresh flowers, pine cones, a four-leaf clover (if they’re lucky!) or other items to add to a nature collection! It’s one of many light-hearted and super fun activities for spring that everyone can get involved in.
Grab your rain boots if the weather isn’t that great because you can’t shy away from a little rain!
Visit a Farmer's Market
Plus, it’s a great way to teach your children about where their food comes from and the importance of eating fresh and healthy. You might even get to see some adorable animals if you visit a marker on an actual farm!
Why don’t you get a bird feeder too? So you can watch the birds from your back garden!
Spring Cleaning and Decluttering
Maybe have a competition to see who can fill a box up with unwanted toys the quickest? Or reward them with treats if they clean one section of their room at a time. It doesn’t have to be sweet treats, but it’s an incentive to help declutter your space!
They could even have a splash-tastic time cleaning the windows if you let them have a water fight afterwards before bathtime!
It’s also an excellent opportunity to teach them about responsibility and taking care of their environment.
Arts and Crafts
There are tons of easy and inexpensive spring-themed crafts and art projects that you can do with your kids. Such as making paper flowers, painting birdhouses or creating nature-inspired art that embraces the spring theme! Like flower suncatchers using flower petals – or flower art. It’s a creative way to develop their motor skills as well as provide that perfect activity for kids.
You could even make a bug hotel! Encourage the fuzzy bees to come along to your garden. They’re very important to our ecosystem, so lots of flowers will attract them!
Family Gardening
Plant some sunflowers, daffodils, bluebells or roses – watch how they grow! All ready for the summer season.
Spring Scavenger Hunt
You can start by making a list of all the things you can find in your garden or nearby park and go on a scavenger hunt with the kids. Some ideas could include a bird’s nest, a butterfly, a specific type of flower, etc. Maybe even have a hidden treasure at the end of the hunt…
If the warm weather makes an experience, that makes the day even better! You’re sure to have a wonderful time and it can become your annual family tradition!
Head Out On A Bug Hunt
Maybe afterwards, the kids can create a nature journal of all the creatures they spotted! Family fun that gets you outside.
Build Fairy Houses
All you’ll need are birdhouses, colourful paint, acrylic paint or felt tip pens, and beautiful flowers to adorn the houses. Maybe even little sprigs of vegetation or moss. Make it really homely for the fairies.
It’s a light-hearted activity with kids that they’ll all enjoy and keep them busy for hours!
Family Bike Rides
Cycle along and see if you can spot any beautiful cherry blossoms, baby birds or other animals scurrying along. Maybe you can find somewhere where you can pitch a tent? Camping is the perfect outdoor springtime activity that involves everyone and can leave you with amazing experiences as a family.
Bring some marshmallows and roast them too!
Spring is a beautiful and exciting time of the year. For all things new and fresh! With plenty of spring activities to get stuck into that the whole family can enjoy, there will be happy smiles all around. So, get out there and make some memories this spring season!
