What to Expect...
Forest of Light makes a welcome return for Winter 2025/26
Gather the family and join us as we open the doors to our wonderful world of magical illuminations and fantastic lighting displays this festive period.
At night, when the moon takes its place in the sky our magical forest comes to life. Forest of Light is a captivating illuminated experience set within our Enchanted ancient Woodland.
We have created a world filled with illuminations, music, interactive props, projections to dazzle and amaze with specially commissioned pieces for Forest of Light, which means that this is a unique experience not to be found anywhere else.

Get DirectionsBy Train:
If you're travelling by train, the nearest major station to Beamish Hall is Chester-le-Street. From there, you can take a short taxi ride (about 15 minutes) or hop on a local bus service (see below for details). If you’re coming from further afield, trains to Chester-le-Street run regularly from Newcastle, Durham, and other major cities.
Alternatively, Newcastle Central Station is also a convenient option, located around 30 minutes away by taxi or bus.
By Bus:
Several local bus routes run close to Beamish Hall, making it accessible for families without a car. The Go North East Bus Services 28, 28A, and 128 all stop near the Beamish Museum, which is just a short walk from Beamish Hall.
From Newcastle or Gateshead: Take the Go North East 28 or 28A bus. The journey typically takes around 40-50 minutes, with buses running regularly.
From Durham: You can take the Go North East 128 bus, which provides a direct link from Durham city centre to Beamish.

By Car:
Beamish Hall is conveniently located near the A1(M), making it an easy drive from surrounding areas.
From Newcastle: Take the A1(M) southbound and exit at Junction 63. Follow signs for Beamish Museum, which will lead you to Beamish Hall. The drive takes about 20 minutes.
From Durham: Head north on the A1(M) and exit at Junction 63, then follow the signs for Beamish. It’s roughly a 15-minute drive from Durham city centre.
From Sunderland: The journey takes about 30 minutes. Follow the A1231 west to the A1(M) and exit at Junction 63.
