Let’s get this show on the road! 2019 is here, and with it come plenty of upcoming movies that will have both you and the kids staring at the screen in awe. Expect star-studded casts and much-awaited sequels (we’re looking at you, Frozen). So grab some popcorn, find your seats and get ready to be dazzled by the latest on the silver screen, as we reveal the best new kids’ movies in 2019.

We've even lined up some relevant days out so you can keep the movie magic going. Lights, camera, action!

1. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World 
Release date: 1st February 2019

We’ve got only one word for this movie - EPIC! The plot follows now chief Hiccup and a love-struck Toothless, on their journey into the Hidden World, where they have to fight to protect everything they love. The third installment in this franchise, will also be its last, so we expect an emotionally-loaded masterpiece.

2. The Kid Who Would Be King 
Release date: 15th February 2019

The Kid Who Would Be King tells the story of an ordinary 12-years-old boy who gets sucked into a world of magic and chivalry, as he unknowingly pulls King Arthur’s sword from the stone. Knights, wizards and an epic quest to defeat evil - what more could you want from a great kids’ film?! The only downside is that even though the initial USA release is set for 25th January 2019, we’ll have to wait until mid-February for the UK premier.

Film Adventure: As all good family films, the latest take on the famous Arthurian legend, will have your kids dreaming of adventure. Give them one, as you get lost in King Arthur’s Labyrinth in Machynlleth.

3. The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part 
Release date: 19th February 2019

February shapes up to be an awesome month for cinema-loving families in the UK, as the month is jam-packed with new movies coming out. If you loved the 2014 LEGO film, you won’t want to miss the sequel. In the second installment of the franchise, Emmet, will have to face evil Duplo invaders to save Wyldstyle and his friends. And if you’re still not convinced that this will be one of the best kids’ movies in 2019, let us remind you that both Batman and Superman are part of Emmet’s crew!

Film Adventure: For heaps of LEGO fun, spend the day at LEGOLAND Windsor, or perhaps at the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre in Manchester or Birmingham.

4. Captain Marvel 
Release date: 8th March 2019

OK, if your kids like superheroes, chances are over the last 10 years you’ve become an expert on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)...and that’s if you hadn’t been a Marvel fan already! With that in mind, heading to see Captain Marvel’s first solo movie is a must before the release of Avengers 4 later in the year (yep, it’s also on our list of best kids’ movies in 2019). After all, if Nick Fury’s betting the fate of the world on that pager message to Captain Marvel, she must be one to watch!

Film Adventure: Why not make a quick stop to Madame Tussauds London and snap a selfie with Nick Fury and the rest of the Marvel superhero team?

5. Dumbo 
Release date: 29th March 2019

Nearly 80 years after Disney’s animation of the same name was released, comes the live-action version of Dumbo - the story of the little elephants whose ears were far too big. Get ready to have your heart strings pulled, as even the trailer can make your eyes water. Plus, with Tim Burton in the director's seat, Dumbo is a strong pretender for the best kids’ film in 2019!

Film Adventure: There are plenty of places where you can see real elephants in the UK, including Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, Colchester Zoo and Chester Zoo.

6. Wonder Park 
Release date: 8th April 2019

Join Jane on her adventure at Wonderland - an imaginary theme park that she and her mom dreamt up during play time, and which has also somehow turned real…This is a feel-good story about believing in your dreams and keeping your inner child alive - the perfect recipe for good family film!

Stars: Brianna Denski, Jennifer Garner and Ken Hudson Campbell
Film Adventure: Well, if seeing Wonder Park doesn’t inspire you to go to a theme park, we don’t know what will! Luckily, from Drayton Manor to Paultons Theme Park, to Gulliver’s Land and Gulliver’s World, you’ve got plenty of great family-friendly theme parks in the UK to choose from.

7. Shazam! 
Release date: 5th April 2019

In need of a light-hearted action-comedy? The DC cinematic universe would normally be the last place to look but here we are: Shazam! is on its way and it is NOT your typical dark, slow-paced DC movie! Follow the adventures of Billy Batson - a teenager who can transform into an adult superhero by saying the magic word: "Shazam!", and be ready to laugh out loud at the mayhem.

Film Adventure: Feel like a real-life superhero at the all-action Twinlakes Theme Park; it’s the #1 Theme park in the East Midlands.

8. Missing Link 
Release date: 5th April 2019

5th of April seems to be the top spring date for new family films to come out, as here comes another awesome release scheduled on this date. The Missing Link is a family adventure that will see myths and monsters investigator Sir Lionel Frost and the adventurous Adelina Fortnight help a mythical creature, called Mr. Link, find his long-lost relatives.

Film Adventure: Learn about human evolution and the real missing link at the Natural History Museum

9. Penguins 
Release date: 17th April 2019 (USA); UK - TBA

Just in time for Earth Day, Disneynature releases its latest adorable animal documentary; it’s called Penguins and it features real penguins! Become part of a real-life adventure, as a the filming crew follows Steve the Penguin on his journey to finding love and learning to be a dad (the latter turning out to be a tad more challenging than he had hoped for).

Film Adventure: You don’t need to go to Antarctica to see real penguins - Edinburgh Zoo has a whole colony of them!

10. Avengers: Engame 
Release Date: 25th April 2019

Avengers: Endgame is the last piece in the current generation of MCU movies and it promises to be the best and biggest movie of 2019, no matter what age you are. It’s predicted to blow the current box office records out of the water. Watch the original Avengers team up one last time to take down Thanos and reverse the Decimation (or as we know it “the snap”). This will be the end of the MCU as we know it, no way you should miss that!

Film Adventure: The best attraction for Avengers fans is, without a doubt, Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N in London. Time to join the team and complete your mission!

11. Pokémon: Detective Pikachu 
Release date: 10th May 2019

The first-ever live-action Pokémon movie is coming, guys! Admit it, if you were kids in the 90s, this is trumps all as the best kids’ movie of 2019. You’ll get the chance to see what life would be like if Ryan Reynolds was Pikachu and he worked as a PI. What could be cooler than this?

Film Adventure: Feeling inspired to go on a Pokemon Go hunt? You can catch some rare characters at plenty of attractions across the UK, including Cadbury World, Hampton Court Palace and Kensington Gardens.

12. Aladdin 
Release date: 24th May 2019

Relive the magic of Agrabah as you join Aladdin, Jasmine and the Genie on their quest to defeat the big baddie, Jafar. Directed by Guy Ritchie and produced by Walt Disney Pictures, this live-action remake of the 1992 classic Aladdin promises to be one of the family movie greats of 2019.

Film Adventure: Want to get up close to Jafar’s tiger, or Iago the Parrot? Spend a day at Longleat Safari and Adventure Park where you can go on a safari in Tiger Territory and watch a daily Parrot Show.

13. The Secret Life of Pets 2 
Release date: 31st May 2019

Got pets? Then, you probably loved The Secret Life of Pets and you’re as excited to see the sequel, as a pet dog would be to see you. Max, Chloe and the rest of their furry friends are back and they are ready to pull off plenty more shenanigans, you just sit back and watch!

Film Adventure: Pets are adorable! Visit the puppies at the Guide Dogs National Breeding Centre and be ready for an overload of cuteness. Don’t forget to book in advance.

14. Toy Story 4
Release date: 21st June 2019

Toy Story undoubtedly is one of the best kids’ film franchises of all time. In the latest installment, Woody and the gang go on a journey to help a reluctant toy, called Forky find his rightful place. Just a warning: this will be a tear-jerker (even though the trailer doesn’t suggest it). How do we know? Well, this is not only a Toy Story movie, but it’s also produced by the guy behind “Up” and “Inside Out”. Yep, you better stock up on tissues!

Film Adventure: See an original Buzz Lightyear action figure from the year 2000 at the Museum of Childhood Edinburgh.

15. Spider-Man: Far From Home 
Release date: 2nd July 2019 

This movie is an Avengers 4 spoiler in its own right, as it shows Spidey back from the dead (yay!) and enjoying a holiday in Europe with his schoolmates like a normal kid...until the villainous Mysterio appears and drags him into a fight. After what’s expected to be a heart-wrenching final of the first era in the MCU, Spider-Man Far From Home will give fans a much needed mood uplift.

Film Adventure: Channel your inner spiderman and have a go at indoor climbing - just choose a Clip ‘n Climb venue near you!

16. The Lion King 
Release date: 19th July 2019

Seems like Disney is on its way to reimagine all your favourite classics. Following Dumbo earlier in the year, 2019 brings you a remake of one of the best kids’ movies of all time - the 1994 masterpiece, Lion King. Can CGI and a whole load of superstar voice actors elevate this movie legend to a new level? We’ve got to wait for the summer to find out!

Film Adventure: Be transported to African and discover all the curious creatures who live there at Africa Alive! Wildlife Park in Lowestoft.

17. Dora the Explorer 
Release date: 2nd August 2019

If your kids love Dora the Explorer, you must check this one out! The beloved animated character comes to the big screen this summer, as Dora, alongside Boots and Diego, faces the challenge of going to high school. As far as children’s movies are concerned, this is one of the most anticipated upcoming releases in 2019.

Film Adventure: Go on your own adventure and learn about your city with a self-guided treasure hunt. There are lots of trails and locations to choose from, including these Treasure Trails and HuntFun adventures.

18. The Angry Birds Movie 2 (NR)

Release date: 2nd August 2019

Remember Angry Birds? Even though the game has somewhat dropped in popularity, the movie franchise is coming back in full force (unless the release date gets pushed back for the 4th time; seems like the production isn’t going as smoothly as predicted). There isn’t much info out yet but what we can tell you is that it seems like a new female villain is about to rise. Angry Birds Movie 2 is unlikely to be a classic in the making but it’s a fun kids’ film you can enjoy together on a grey October day.

Stars: Dove Cameron, Awkwafina, Peter Dinklage and Nicki Minaj

Film Adventure: Take your Angry Birds adventure from the big screen to the real world and let the kids loose on the Angry Birds Activity Park at Sundown Adventureland. It was the first ever Angry Birds-themed attraction to open doors in the UK!

19. Artemis Fowl 
Release Date: 9th August 2019

UPDATE: Disney have now announced the film's release date will be pushed back to the 29th May 2020

Based on the hit novel of the same name, Artemis Fowl has seized the attention of book-loving kids all over the world. The upcoming Disney production follows a 12-year-old genius (and descendant of criminal masterminds), Artemis Fowl, in a war against the mighty underground fairies (who may have something to do with his father's disappearance). If the movie lives up to even half the hype of the trailer, it will be a great family movie to see with the kids!

Film Adventure: A great place to unleash your kids’ (0-11) imagination and create your own stories is the Discover Children’s Story Centre in Stratford.

20. UglyDolls (NR)
Release date: 16 August 2019

Remember UglyDolls? Well, they’ve got their own movie now! We’re not going to lie, since this is just the latest film about a toy fad, you probably shouldn’t expect a brilliant storyline, but if you’re up for light-hearted fun and lots of music, this is your movie. Plus, we’ve got to say the A-list cast in this production is quite impressive.

Stars: Blake Shelton, Bebe Rexha, Pitbull, Kelly Clarkson and Nick Jonas.

Film Adventure: Here’s a musical adventure for you! Take the kids to The Musical Museum in Brentford - the music instrument there play on their own.

21. Spies in Disguise (NR)
Release date UPDATE: The release date has been pushed back to 27th December 2019

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Will Smith was James Bond and then Tom Holland aka Q turned him into a pigeon for a mission? Well, this cool (or as some would say “super fly”) animated movie will answer that exact question, minus the Bond franchise names. That’s a kids’ film with enough action to have the whole family glued to the screen!

22. Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil (NR)
Release date: 18th October 2019

Talk about good news! Disney surprised fans all over the world by announcing that Maleficent 2 will be released in October 2019, which 7 months ahead of schedule. If you loved the first instalment in the series, you're bound to be excited about the next adventure of Maleficent and Aurora, as the stand strong against new threats to the magical land of the Moors.

23. The Addams Family (NR)
Release date: 25th October 2019

Ready for ghoulish shenanigans, Addams Family style? If you loved watching the live-action movies in the 90s, you’ll definitely want to give this new animation a try. Watch Morticia, Gomez and the kids face off against an annoying TV host, while preparing for the arrival of their extended family. Good family move right there, if you ask us!

Film Adventure: The latest take on the Addams Family story put you in the mood for something spooky? Why not visit some of UK’s most haunted castles (if the kids are up for it, of course)! Edinburgh Castle, Glamis Castle, Fraser Castle, Dover Castle and so many more - the choice is yours.

24. Frozen 2 (NR)
Release date: 22nd November 2019

OK, here comes the sequel your kids have been waiting for! After 6 whole years of waiting (yes, 6!) , Frozen 2 is about to hit cinemas all over the world. If there’s one movie to see with the kids in 2019, this is it. The plot hasn’t been revealed yet and the trailer hasn’t been released but it’s a safe bet that a singalong classic is in the making.

Film Adventure: The icy kingdom of Arendelle gets you dreaming of a snowy winter? You don’t have to rely on the weather, just visit SnoZone in Milton Keynes or in Castleford and have fun in the snow, any time of the year.

25. Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker (NR)
Release date: 19th December 2019

This December J.J. Abrams brings another Star Wars trilogy to an end, with Rey, Poe, Finn, and Kylo Ren facing their final adventure. The movie will be special, as it’s going to contain unseen footage of Carrie Fisher. This will be the last time we’ll see Princess Leia in action. There are rumours Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, or even Darth Vader might be back in this latest installment but let’s not get too crazy, right?

26. Sonic the Hedgehog (NR)
Release date: 26th December 2019

Finally, Sonic gets his own movie! On Boxing Day 2019, Sonic and his new friend- small-town sheriff Tom Wachowski, go face to face with the evil Dr. Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey. A little bit of nostalgia, a lot of action and plenty of fun for the kids - sounds like the perfect Christmas family film, don’t you think?
