What is planned for the new Cardiff Canal Quarter?
A canal hidden for over 70 years has now been uncovered and opened in Cardiff’s Churchill Way. This is all part of a plan to create a canal quarter in the capital city of Wales. It is hoped the completed canal quarter tourist attraction will breathe new life into this area of the city attracting new businesses including shops, hotels, restaurants and more visitors.
The area has struggled since the opening of the St David’s Dewi Sant shopping centre, which it was felt took visitors away from other areas in Cardiff’s city centre.
Viewing Platforms and Outdoor Performance Area
Already the Cardiff Canal Quarter development has seen viewing platforms and outdoor seating installed. They provide a pleasant shopping experience and place to visit for families in Cardiff’s vibrant city centre. Also, an amphitheatre style outdoor live performance area is set to be part of the new canal attraction.
The project has been made possible with funding from the City Deal, Welsh Government and Cardiff Council.
So, let’s forget the canals and waterways of Venice and Amsterdam, Cardiff’s Canal Quarter is the new place to be!
