Thinking about all the upcoming public holidays in 2023? It’s the start of the year and you want to get planning on how to fully utilise your time off, and we don’t blame you! Note down all the important dates, like the Spring Bank Holiday!
We’ll answer your burning questions!
What is the Spring Bank Holiday?
The Spring Bank Holiday is the UK’s national holiday that is celebrated on the last Monday in May. In 2023, the official bank holiday will be on Monday 29th May! We get a handful of days throughout the year for all hard-working Brits to enjoy
It’s also known as the Late May Bank Holiday! Did you know it was first established in 1978 as part of the Banking and Financial Dealings Act? This was so the bank and financial institutions would close and their workers could enjoy a long weekend!
It’s the time to relax, spend time with family and friends, or have some good old quality time with yourself! Whether you go away for a long weekend, a road trip to somewhere you’ve never been before or stay at home. We’re sure your holiday plans will be refreshing for you!
When is the Spring Bank Holiday 2023?
This year, the spring holiday is on 29th May 2023. But it’s not the only bank holiday during May!
The first Monday of the month – Early May Bank Holiday – is also an official holiday! So, you’ll have two 3-day weekends… or won’t you?
Are you forgetting we have an additional one-off holiday in 2023? On the 8th May, there will be a Coronation bank holiday for King Charles. A special event, that many people across the UK will be watching and celebrating.
For others, it’s an additional 3-day weekend and a chance to enjoy, relax and rejuvenate. Plus, since these are all in May, we have a high chance of warm and lovely weather, so hopefully, we can get outside and enjoy that British sun.
Is the Spring Bank Holiday During the School Term?
The first two Spring holidays in May are not in the half-term, so they will be during term time. But it’s still a national holiday, so schools will be closed. Teacher training days may follow these bank holidays, but please check with your kid’s school beforehand.
However, the 29th May official bank holiday will be the start of the summer half-term for schools in England & Wales!
