Pumpkin Picking at Moel Famau

Until 2024 this was a sheep farm. The family opened the fields to visitors for the first time that October, and the pumpkin patch on the slopes of Moel Famau has run each autumn since, still small and still run by the same family.

Picking here means picking. Pumpkins come fresh out of the field rather than from a pre-picked display, so children take their own from the ground and the patch changes shape as the month goes on. A Spooky Sunflower Maze runs alongside the pumpkins, and photo spots are set up around the field.

The cafe does fresh homemade cakes along with hot drinks and other refreshments, which matters more than usual on a hillside in October. Facilities are otherwise modest, and the farm is upfront about that: toilets are not standard on site, though a portaloo is being provided for the 2026 pumpkin season.

A few things are worth sorting before you leave the house. Parking is limited and the farm asks visitors to book before arriving, even though tickets can also be bought on site. Four accessible parking spaces exist but must be requested in advance. Dogs are not allowed at all, because pumpkins are a food crop and sit, as the farm puts it, at perfect peeing height. Both card and cash are taken, with the farm noting that the card reader works most of the time despite living in a field.

Sensible shoes are advised and the farm tells visitors to dress for the weather. Private group visits can be arranged.
