I attended the Hive Family Festival with 2 of my sons, Olly (7) and Alfie (1). There was so much to see and do from music to character meets, interactive shows, face painting and more.

Our Arrival & First Impressions

Arrived and got our wristbands

First impressions were really positive. Clear, well staffed vehicle entrance, I was dropped off in a designated area near the carpark and it was then a very short walk to the entrance. The festival was well set up, with plenty of stands and activities to easily see.

Activities Breakdown

Face painting
Characters to meet and greet

There were lots of activities and attractions there. We went to the face painting, hook a duck and inflatable slide (which were all chargeable) we also watched magic tricks, mini childrens shows, character meet and greets, bubble entertainers and live music throughout the day which were all included in the price. The music and activities really were planned to cater well for children and kept them so engaged and entertained.

  1. 1

    Music

Both live and dj music throughout the whole day, great songs and so much fun for all ages.
    Dancing to the music
  2. 2

    Meeting the characters

Great range of characters to meet and greet from princesses to bluey to inflatable dinosaurs and sharks.
Meet and greet with an inflatable dinosaur
  3. 3

    Lots of entertainment

Different entertainers that went around the festival and performed in different areas throughout the day and interacted with you when waiting in queues etc
Lots of different types of entertainers

Food & Drink

Unfortunately due to no fault of their own the festival did not have very many food options available, the contacted via email on the day to say 2 food trucks had broken down and would not be in attendance so we were then given permission to bring food in with us which you weren't originally allowed to do. Therefore I dont think I can judge the food options fairy however we did get a sweet treat each and having gluten free and vegan options was really good and the prices were reasonable. We also used the slush bar which we purchased the refillable cups for £6 each (filled with your choice of flavours) and then was £4 for a refill. I found this quite reasonable for an event and the slush went down extremely well in the warmer weather.

Money-Saving Tip

They had water stations on site so you could fill up empty water bottles.

Overall Verdict & Ratings

A Tried & Tested - Day Out With The Kids
Safety & Cleanliness5.0

We used both the Portaloos and indoor toilets which were all clean and presentable

Rides & Entertainment4.0

Good variety of entertainment- only loses a point due to some being paid activities

Food & Drink5.0

5 out of 5 for quality and cost of the food and drinks that were available

Queues & Crowds3.0

The face painting was very slow, even with 2 people doing it. We had about 8 people in front of us when lined up and it took about an hour which was slower than used to. Also needed staff for queue for bluey meet and greet as people just bundled from all directions with no staff to guide

Fun & Delight5.0

Myself and my boys genuinely enjoyed the day so much, my 7 year old had so much fun

Value for Money3.0

We found the ticket quite high, especially as needed to still pay quite abit when there.

The Final Verdict:

I really enjoyed our visit and my boys had a great time. I would like to visit again but it would be a considered purchase. As a family of 6 we couldnt of justified going all of us at full price for what was involved as we could of paid similar for what id consider to be experiences worth the cost more. However with just my two younger children and discounted tickets I would consider again and I think they did put great effort into making the event as good as they could.

Yellow Line
"A really fun family day out but not the most budget friendly."
