Animal Feeding Encounters and Daily Talks

Beyond the special Under 5s programme, the park’s regular feeding encounters and daily talks are absolutely perfect for curious little ones! Getting up close to real animals is an experience toddlers will talk about for weeks.

Feeding Encounters

Animal feeding pots cost £1.50 each and are subject to availability, so it is worth grabbing one early in the day!

Animal Feeding Time
Meerkats 3:00pm
Penguins 12:30pm and 2:30pm
Lorikeets 10:30am-1:00pm and 2:00-4:00pm

The Lorikeet feeding is especially brilliant for toddlers as it runs across a longer window, giving you more flexibility. Imagine colourful lorikeets landing on little outstretched arms! It is pure magic for under-fives.

Daily Animal Talks

All included in your admission ticket, these talks are a wonderful way to help young children learn about the animals they are seeing up close:

What Else is There for Toddlers at West Midlands Safari Park?

Under 5s Week activities aside, the park itself is absolutely packed with things that young children will love. Think of it as a full day of wonder, not just a few shows!

The Four-Mile Safari Drive

The iconic drive-through safari is an experience unlike anything else for little ones. You stay safely in your car while incredible animals wander right up to your windows. Giraffes, zebras, elephants, rhinos, lions and so much more, all seen at close range. For toddlers who love animals, this is genuinely one of those life-long memories in the making.

Pro tip: Hit the Safari Drive first thing when you arrive. The animals are most active in the mornings and the queues are shorter before 11am!

Explorers’ Play Park

This is a brilliant dedicated space for young children, with zones including:

  • Chase’s Race Track for little runners
  • Luca’s Playground with climbing frames and slides
  • Millie’s Burrow with tunnels to explore
  • Ellie’s Bandcamp for making music

It is interactive, imaginative and perfectly pitched for the under-five age group. A great spot to let off steam between shows!

Discovery Trail

The all-weather Discovery Trail on the Safari Walk is ideal for curious toddlers. You will find penguins, lorikeets, marmosets, red pandas, reptiles, fish and even bats. There are daily Sea Lion Shows along the route too, which are always a hit with young children.

Baby Giraffe Olive!

Here is a special bonus for 2026 visitors. West Midlands Safari Park welcomed a baby Northern giraffe named Olive on 20th January 2026. Seeing a baby giraffe on the Safari Drive or African Walking Trail is an extra-special treat that you simply cannot plan for anywhere else right now!

Our Top Tips for Visiting with Under 5s

A little planning goes a long way when you are heading out with toddlers! Here are our best tips for making the most of Under 5s Week.

  • Arrive at opening time (9:30am). Animals are most active in the mornings, the Safari Drive is quieter and you will bag front-row spots for the 10:30am Hi Safari Friends Show.
  • Plan your show schedule before you go. With five Hi Safari Friends showtimes daily plus Eddie, Eliza and the animal talks, it is easy to build a full day around the timetable without rushing.
  • Bring snacks and a packed lunch. There are picnic areas and benches throughout the park. This keeps costs down and means you are not scrambling for food between shows.
  • Grab a Lorikeet feeding pot early. At £1.50 each and subject to availability, these go quickly. Head to Lorikeet Landing soon after arrival.
  • Pack for all weathers. April in the West Midlands can be unpredictable! A light waterproof and comfortable shoes for little ones make a big difference.
  • Buggy-friendly routes. The park is largely accessible with a pushchair. The Discovery Trail is all-weather, and the Explorers’ Play Park has plenty of space to park up buggies.
  • Book online in advance. Not just for the best price, but to guarantee entry. Under 5s Week is a popular event and the park can get busy during the Easter holidays.

Key takeaway: Arrive early, plan around the show timetable and book online before you go. That combination makes for a stress-free, magical day with your little ones!
