Where To Go Strawberry Picking In Yorkshire

Firstly, you’ll want to know when the peak season for strawberry picking is. Typically it is June to July however, if the weather is good in the UK, farms will continue to sell ripened strawberries until the start of September. Please be aware that all farms will run PYO experiences at different times to one another.

There are lots of other factors to take into account before planning your PYO fruit day out. Weather conditions are a biggie. If we’ve had lots of rainfall (like we’ve had recently) farms will close their strawberry-picking fields to allow time for the grounds to dry. Please always be wary that this factor could change your plans. Damn you British weather!

Most farms offer more than just strawberry picking! So if you’re strawberry-picking plans have been foiled by the rain get in contact with the farms to see if there are any other fruit-picking activities or farm attractions that are still available. Fruit picking farms typically have a wide range of crops to choose from, all year round. Summertime is perfect for berries, Autumn is ideal for pumpkins and Winter is a wonderful time to hunt for Christmas trees!

When picking fresh fruit make sure to pick the ripest ones. This may seem like a no-brainer but sometimes people may think if they pick less ripe fruit, the fruit will ripen after being picked and will last longer – this is not the case. So, avoid wasting crops and just go for the juiciest-looking fruit that you’d be happy to eat there and then.

Entry fees will vary from farm to farm but most are free. If there are entry fees they are very low in price. Your carton/basket of fruit will be weighed in the farm shop and you will pay for what you pick based on the weight. Make sure to only pick fruit that you will realistically eat.

Keep your kids busy in nature, by collecting lots of different berries from strawberries to raspberries, gooseberries, blackcurrants and rhubarb too! They’ll love learning about soft fruits as they fill their baskets with all of their favourite fruits.

Fruit is purchased at the Berry Barn kiosk or Farm Shop till based on weight. Entry charge will be added to the price of the fruit you have picked at the till.

This wonderful farm offers strawberries, sunflowers and pumpkins throughout the year. Make sure to regularly check Redwood Farm’s social media as they regularly open and close depending on how ripe the fruit is.

Take your tots and teens down to Kemps Farm for a day of outdoor fun, and fresh yummy berries. Every season is PYO season here with pumpkins, fir trees, strawberries and so much more ready for the pluckin’.

Opening until early September, Kemps Farm is celebrating the Summer season with all the best fruits. Fill up your trays with strawberries and raspberries but make sure to only pick the ripest fruit.

Tickets are £2.50pp which includes admission to the picking fields and a voucher for £2.50 to be used on a tractor & trailer ride or towards the cost of the fruit. You pay for all the fruit that you pick, strawberries £6.95/kg.

Pluck wide varieties of strawberries from Spanish tunnels such as Munura, Sweet Eve, Malling Centenery, Elsanta, Sonata & Malling Alure. This delightful spot has a cafe, an award-winning farm shop and plenty of other produce to pick too! You will also find blueberries in the Summer and pumpkins in the Autumn.

Spend the day scoping the fields for the ripest strawberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants, raspberries, and gooseberries! Unwind in the Pavilion Cafe and tuck into famous homemade Strawberry Cream scones, Raspberry Meringues and Brownies (as seen on BBC Look North). Don’t forget to invite your furry friend too, they are allowed on all grassy areas!

Grab your container and head for the strawberry fields at Bentley Grange Farm! Strawberry season is from late June to late July here, so make sure to get the most out of the last few weeks! Why not go the whole hog and make yourself a fruit salad with other PYO fruits? Add some blackcurrants and redcurrants to your basket and job’s a gooden!

This farm typically offers strawberry picking among other yummy berries. At the moment Furty Berry Fruit Farm is temporarily closed for strawberry picking as they are low on strawberries. However, if you would like to pick other berries please call 07985693692 and they will open the farm for you.

Whether it is PYO fruits, a maize maze or adorable farm animals, there’s a whole hub of things to do at Birchfield Farm.

Sadly, PYO strawberry season has now ended at the farm but there are still loads of fun things to do. Birchfield Farm is primarily known as a dairy farm, and you know what this means, don’t you? THEY SELL LOADS OF ICE CREAM!!! You can also meet some baby goats, and piglets, and hop aboard a tractor.
