Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas

Probably the most famous family-friendly film based around Halloween! Join Jack Skellington from Halloween Town, as he stumbles upon the magical Christmas Town… He’s instantly enchanted by the magical presence and an obsession soon follows, but what happens if he kidnaps Santa Claus?

Monster House

Starring: Steve Buscemi, Michael Musso, Spencer Locke, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Sam Lerner

Three curious teenagers discover that their neighbour’s house is more sinister than they’ve ever realised… It’s actually a monster that hates children. They then set on a mission to discover its heart and kill it.

A family-friendly spooky movie, with creepy characters that is sure to get everyone into the Halloween spirit!

The Black Cauldron

Starring: Grant Bardsley, John Byner, Nigel Hawthorne and Susan Sheridan

This is a Disney Original movie that isn’t as common, but still a fabulous family Halloween movie that is worth checking out this spooky season!

Follow Taran and his friends on an adventurous journey to find a black cauldron that has remarkable powers. But with an evil Horned King in their way…will they be able to stop him from unleashing a huge army of unstoppable soldiers?

It may not be your typical Halloween choice…but it is on the list of scary movies! A horror, dark fantasy movie that follows Coraline in her new house. She finds a suspicious small door in a room that leads to a world where everything is perfect. Or so it seems…with her ‘Other Mother’ at the hands of all this trickery, will Coraline be safe?

Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride

Starring: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Emily Watson, and Richard E. Grant

Set in the bleak Victorian era, a shy young man called Victor finds himself engaged to a deceased woman and becomes trapped in the underworld in which she lives. But there’s just one issue, he’s not dead! While Emily (the corpse bride) falls deeply in love, Victor is trying to do everything he can to get back to his fiance in the living world. This vibrant and quirky story explores dead pets, accidental marriages and peculiar characters like the maggot that lives behind Emily’s eye. But essentially, this film is all about “if you love someone, let them go” and this will eventually set you free.

This film is 13+ as it explores death, decay, and murder.

Haunted Mansion 2023

A woman and her son enlist a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid their home of supernatural squatters…

Journey to an ill-fated town suffering a deadly curse. Will their fates change when Norman, who can speak to ghosts, teams up with a few friends to save the town? A spooky tale for a spooky season.


Starring: Winona Ryder, Charlie Tahan, Martin Short and Catherine O’Hara

Victor devastated when his dog companion Sparky dies from being hit by a car, decides to bring him back to life. But things don’t go to plan when his dog now looks like a monster and terrifies everyone. Another classic Tim Burton original that is definitely on my list of family Halloween movies!

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

After the successful original film, it’s about time they released a sequel!

Some legends never die… 29 years after the events of the first film, the three Sanderson Sisters have again returned to modern-day Salem. Can three high-school students stop them in their tracks? And to what lengths will the witch sisters go to…

The modern film adaptation of the much-loved spooky children’s books. When the author of the book R L Stine discovers that the scariest monsters he writes about in his books come to life, he and his daughter must put things right. The puppet dolls were enough for me to switch the film over…but hey, you guys might like it!

A family-friendly horror classic – that is scattered with gentle jump scares but plenty of laughter.

Follow a couple as they visit a mansion they wish to purchase. However, they soon realise there’s more to the mansion than the eye can see… It’s actually haunted by evil spirits, who don’t want them there.

Another Disney Channel classic is about two twin teenage witches who were separated at birth. Who happen to meet each other on their 21st birthday and discover they have magical powers. But with an evil spirit looming, they must team up to save their mom and kingdom from succumbing to the dark forces.

Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed

A gothic supernatural film set in Romania. After investigating the death of a young nun, they soon realise there are much bigger things at play when things take a dark and sinister turn.
