Beach Art

Beach rock sculpture

One beach activity that kids will love is creating beautiful beach art using the natural materials they find on the shore. Encourage your children to collect shells, rocks, driftwood, and seaweed to use in their artwork.

They can create stunning designs in the sand or even make rock sculptures with their treasures. This is a great way for kids to express their creativity and connect with nature at the same time. Easy tip- for simple beach art get the kids to make sand angel shapes. Just like snow angels all you need is to lie down and move your arms up and down at the side. Why not see how many sand angels you can make?

Coastal Scavenger Hunt

If your child loves exploring nature, why not take them on a beach scavenger hunt or treasure hunt? Create a list of items to find and see, such as seashells, driftwood, seagulls, crabs or a boat. You can include anything you like! See who can collect/ tick off the most items. This is both a fun and educational activity not only keeping kids entertained, but it also encourages them to learn about the different things that can be found at a beach.

You could even create a theme such as as seashell scavenger hunt. Take a stroll along the shoreline with a beach bucket and see who can find the most unique shells or the tiniest ones. It’s a treasure trove waiting to be discovered!

Family Beach Games

Beach football

One of the best outdoor activities during the Summer months has to be a fun beach game. There are lots of beach games to choose from and this is perfect for active kids who love to run and play. The beach offers plenty of space for exciting beach games and sports. Enjoy a frisbee game, bring a beach ball, or even a hula hoop for loads of fun in the sun. Kids can also enjoy playing beach cricket or football with their family or friends.

Building Sandcastles

UK beach sandcastle

One of the most classic beach activities for kids is building sandcastles. After all, we think you’ll agree what’s a beach day without building towering sandcastles? All you need is a bucket and spade, and your little ones can spend hours creating their own sandy masterpieces.

Encourage them to get creative by adding shells, seaweed, and other beach treasures to their castles. Don’t forget to add an all important moat to your castle. An easy way to do this is to build some narrow trenches in the sand around your castle to fill with a bucket of water or maybe more!  Sandcastle tip- it can be easier to get your sandcastle to stay in shape if you build with damp sand rather than totally dry.

Paddling In The Sea

Beach activities for kids don’t have to rely on sunshine. Enjoying a paddle in the shallow water along the shore is family fun for chillier days too. We recommend you add wellies on colder days though, so your toes don’t freeze!

Kids will love to splish, splash as they walk along and see how many small waves they can jump over. A refreshing, physical activity for wearing the kids out whatever the weather.

Watersports

For older children who enjoy getting wet, playing in the waves is always a hit. Whether they’re on boogie boarding, body surfing, or simply splashing around, kids will have a blast in the water. Just be sure to keep a close eye on them and stay within designated swimming areas. It’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with the meaning of different lifeguard flags so you know what areas of water are safest to enter.

Rockpooling

Children exploring rock pools

A fun activity at the beach that we think most people would have happy childhood memories of is exploring rock pools. Every kids favourite thing to do at the beach! The magical tide pools left behind when the sea retreats are full of wonder and fascinating creatures that kids love to discover. From crabs, to starfish, mussels and seaweed there’s lots to find.

So, grab a net and see what you can discover. Make sure to wear suitable footwear though, flimsy flip flops could cause you to slip. We recommend beach shoes or wellies.

Family Beach Picnic

Family beach picnic

Grab your beach chairs, pop down a beach blanket and set up for a meal with a difference. A family beach picnic of course! We think you’ll agree that there’s something about being near the coast that makes food just taste even better! Children will love the novelty of eating on the sand.

Whether you’ve bought some fish and chips from the nearby promenade or are tucking in to homemade sandwiches and cakes nothing beats a picnic at the beach. However, our beach tip would be you might want to pop up a beach umbrella to keep any greedy seagulls for stealing your snacks. For extra fun and if your beach neighbours don’t mind why not bring a portable speaker and add some music to your gathering? You could even have a little dance party as the sun goes down!

Beach Themed Creative Crafts

Beach stones

Don’t forget about beach arts and crafts! This is ideal beach fun to keep kids busy. Bring along some paints, markers, or coloured pencils. Then, let your kids get creative with seashells, stones and rocks.

They can create beautiful beach-inspired masterpieces  to take home as souvenirs of their fun day at the beach.

Flying Kites

Another fun beach activity for kids is flying a kite. The breeze off the ocean makes for perfect kite-flying conditions, and kids will love watching their colourful kites soar in the sky.

You can even have a contest to see who can keep their kite in the air the longest.

Children eating ice cream

There you have it – ten fantastic beach activities for kids that’ll keep them entertained from sunrise to sunset. Whether they’re building sandcastles or riding the waves, the beach offers endless opportunities for adventure and memories that’ll last a lifetime.
