If you have kids of a certain age, then you’ll know all about Minecraft. The popular game allows players to build and explore their own virtual worlds and kids love it!
So, if you have a birthday party coming up and your little Minecraft fan has asked for a themed cake- don’t worry we’ve got you covered! Check out this amazing Minecraft Creeper Cake recipe. Best of all? It’s super easy to make.
Ingredients
For the sponge cake:
This ingredients will make a (7in) square or 20.5cm (8in) round tin (makes 20 slices)
- 225 g softened unsalted butter
- 225 g golden caster sugar
- 4 medium eggs
- 225 g sifted self-raising flour
- 100 g sifted plain flour
- Grated zest and juice of 1 lemon
For the green, white and black decorations:
- 2 packets of Ready to roll Sugarpaste Fondant Icing in green and black.
For green buttercream:
- 4 Cups powdered sugar
- 2 Sticks butter; room temperature
- 2-3 Tsp vanilla
- 2 Tbsp milk
- Gel green food colouring
Equipment
- A knife and a rolling pin
- Small square cookie cutters
- Piping bag and nozzles (for buttercream)
- Baking Spatula (spreading buttercream)
- Cake board
- Square cake pan
Method
Sponge cake base:
- Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time and mix in. If the mixture looks as though it’s going to curdle, mix in 1tbsp flour.
- Fold in the remaining flour with the lemon juice and zest.
- Bake at 170°C (150°C fan oven) mark 3 for 1 hour 15 minutes.
- To check your cake is done either gently press the top and see if it springs back or insert a skewer – it should come out clean.
Green buttercream:
- Using the green buttercream ingredients list as detailed above. Place powdered sugar, salt, butter, vanilla, and 1 tablespoon of milk in your mixing bowl.
- Mix your ingredients thoroughly adding tsp of milk until you have reached your required consistency.
- Add green gel food colouring and mix up until you achieve grass green colour.
- Once your sponge cake has cooled for 2-3 hours. Use your baking spatula to cover with the green buttercream ‘Minecraft Grass’.
Fondant Squares:
- Roll out your prepared fondant icing using a rolling pin.
- Using a small square cookie cutter and knife cut out green and black squares to decorate your cake.
- Place the green squares into rows on the cake, to create your topping.
- Finally, use the black squares to create the shape of a Minecraft creeper face, and voila!
