Attraction Information
Tomb of the Eagles
is another name for the Isbister Chambered Cairn which is a Stone Age tomb located underground and which contained lots of skulls and bones particularly of Eagles- hence the name!
The passageway into the Tomb is 70 cm wide and 85 cm high and the quickest option is to crawl along the 3 metre entrance although a trolley is also available! Once inside, the roof is 3 metres high with skylights providing light.
The walk from the Visitor Centre to the tomb, via a Bronze Age site is approximately 1 mile along a well-marked path.
In the Visitors Centre, you will find a unique hands-on experience where you can see and handle some of the original artefacts found at the sites.
During the main visitor season, there are displays and daily talks. Plus, there is a gift shop that also serves teas, coffees and ice-cream.
