Pumpkin Picking at Pencoed Fach Farm

A hundred years of the same family working the same organic ground is the backdrop here, and the pumpkin patch is one of the few times the farm at Bedwellty opens its gates to the public. It is a small operation rather than a theme park version of autumn, set in the South Wales valleys a short way from Blackwood.

The 2026 season is the earliest the farm has ever opened for pumpkins, starting on Saturday 26 September and running through to Saturday 31 October. It does not open every day. Picking happens on individual bookable days, among them 26 and 27 September, 3 and 4 October, 10 October, 24 and 25 October and 31 October, so the date you choose matters more than it would at a farm open all week.

Tickets are booked in advance, and entry is charged at £8 per vehicle rather than per person, which suits a full car and is less generous to a couple arriving on their own. The pumpkins are paid for separately once you have picked, with the price depending on the size you go for.

The farm shop is open alongside the patch, and the same fields host a sunflower field in summer and other events through the year. Because everything here is grown organically and the farm is worked rather than staged, expect a proper field underfoot rather than a manicured lawn.
