What to Expect...
The pumpkin season at West Craigie Farm splits neatly in two. The first nine days of October are run as quieter pick-your-own days, for families who would rather have space in the field than a party around them. From 10 October the farm switches into full festival mode, with extra entertainment laid on across the site.
Pumpkins are not part of the ticket price, so budget separately for whatever your children decide to carry back to the car. Food and drink vendors sit alongside the field, burgers and hot dogs among them, and the entertainment laid on during the main festival period means picking is rarely the only thing you do.
Tickets are sold in two-hour time slots and advance booking is required to guarantee entry. Two formats are on offer: a set date ticket, and a limited run of Any Day tickets valid on any date in October. There is also a separate After Dark ticket for an illuminated evening version of the patch.
This is a large open field, so paths can be uneven or muddy and full accessibility is not guaranteed. The farm asks visitors to dress for the forecast and recommends boots or wellies. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and only service and guide dogs are allowed at the event.
Event Highlights
Quiet picking days before the festival starts
The first nine days of October, 1 to 9, are run as quieter pick-your-own days with a calmer feel in the field. If crowds and noise are hard work for your family, that is the window to aim for, before the fuller festival programme begins on 10 October.
An illuminated After Dark evening in the patch
A separate Pumpkin Festival After Dark ticket opens the patch up in the evening, lit for picking once the light has gone. It is £12.50 for adults and for children aged 3 to 16, with reduced carer tickets at £6.25, and it needs booking in the same way as a daytime slot.
Bale maze, storytelling and roaming characters
From 10 October the festival programme adds a bale maze to get lost in, storytelling sessions, characters roaming the site, paintball target shooting and photo spots among the rows. Burgers, hot dogs and other food and drink are served on site, so a visit can comfortably stretch across a couple of hours.
