There is always something free for families to do together at The British Museum.

Special family events and activities include:

Hands On desks: A unique opportunity to handle objects from the Museum's collection. Volunteers will help you and answer your questions. Daily, 11am to 4pm.

Art materials: Borrow crayons, pencils and pads. Just ask at the Paul Hamlyn Library.

Ford activity backpacks: Puzzles, games and activities to do in the galleries. Available every day for Free!

Children's Multimedia Guide: Listen to Vid the Martian as he looks at Museum objects. Available every day for Free!

Hamlyn Family Trails: 8 fun trails to follow around the Museum. Available every day for free!

Plus free digital workshops available every weekend and school holiday too!

Plus for school age kids and beyond you've got the vast 8 million strong collection of antiquities and artefacts, with it's most famous bits including the Parthenon Marbles, Rosetta Stone, the Head Of Rameses, the Assyrian Winged Bull Gateway and even an Easter Island statue. There is also a new World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre

We do strongly suggest you contact British Museum before you set off on your family day out, just to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices, as there is nothing worse than disappointed kids in the back of your car after a long journey.

Opening Times

2016 Details:

The Museum is closed on 1 January, Good Friday, 24, 25, 26 December
Open: 10am, Close: 5:30pm.
Fridays until 8.30pm.

There are 3 cafes at the Museum as well as a picnic area.

There are toilets on every floor of the Museum. Accessible toilets are located in the Great Court, the Ford Centre for Young Visitors, the Clore Education Centre and to the north of Room 66.

There are baby feeding rooms in the Ford Centre for Young Visitors and near the East stairs.
