Barnstaple Heritage Centre offers great entertainment for the whole family, with a fantastic hands on, interactive exhibition, games and quizzes, brass rubbings, and children’s costumes to dress up in! It is open all year, and reasonably priced, making it a great location for a fun family day out that won’t break the bank.

Experience Saxon life as you travel back in time and see what’s for sale at the Medieval Market, hear merchants trading at the Tome Stone, and escape from the enemy as the Civil War reaches the town! You can also explore the more genteel 18th century, and tread the boards with John Gray’s Beggar’s Opera.

There are missing mice to find, and a Heritage Trail to follow through to the Floral Arch (and the gift shop!).

There is a free Audio Heritage Trail to follow, which you can download from their website before you visit, and guides you around some of Barnstaple’s most interesting monuments and bulidings. It takes about an hour to completd at an easy pace, and there are plenty of places to stop along the way. You can also download Activity Books for the kids, or get them for 10pm at the centre.

Wibbly Wobbly Weblink

It may be worth checking out Barnstaple Heritage Centre's website to see if there are any special events or seasonal fun things to do that may be going on during the day.

We do strongly suggest you contact Barnstaple Heritage Centre before you set off on your family day out, just to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices, as there is nothing worse than disappointed kids in the back of your car after a long journey.
