Attraction Information
Whitesands Bay is an idyylic spot to be sure, but an active one too!
Purportedly one of the best surfing beaches in the country and surfboards are available to hire. It's also popular for windsurfing and canoeing and in fact is so popular in peak season that the beach is sectioned off so sunbathers can lounge in peace while watching the action further along the beach and out to sea!
There are some spots where you can be cut off by the tide so be sure to plan your trip according to tidal times and pay attention to local notices! There is seasonal RNLI lifeguard cover: lifeguards patrol between end of May and the beginning of September. Dogs are banned from the main beach from May to September.
The Pembrokeshire Coast Northern Path offers an interesting circular walk which takes in St David's Head along with the remains of a fort and burial chamber before returning around Carn Llidi Hill. The whole area is very popular with kite fliers because of the crosswinds!
Please note that the telephone contact number below is for St David's Tourist Information Centre. The Celtic Coaster bus service runs once an hour from St. David's to Whitesands from April through September. The nearest train station is approximately 15 miles away at Haverford West but there are also 100 car parking spaces.
