Attraction Information
West Highland Museum gives you the chance to find out everything about the region, including the historic Fort William, where it is based.
Learn about crime and the rather gruesome punishment when you see the birching table and nasty looking neck irons! There are quite a few military items to see including cannonballs, maps, shields, medals and a number of weapons from throughout history.
If you prefer archaeology, check out the ancient pottery, stonework and arrowheads. Or learn about Bonnie Prince Charlie, his followers and the history of his family, the Stuarts. And be sure to keep an eye out for the treasure from a Spanish galleon that was shipwrecked and bagpipes that were playing in 1314 at Bannockburn.
There is so much to see and everything is really well laid out, plus the staff there are really friendly and happy to talk about the exhibits and displays.
So whether you want to see silver, coins and medals, or costumes and charms, learn about highland crofting or the history of mountain rescue, you can do it all here!
