Attraction Information
The Roman Sandy is an open exhibition free to all which displays locally discovered Roman artefacts from archaeological digs in the town's cemetery from between 1988 and 1991. It's not a huge collection admittedly but what is there is very interesting and their collection includes coins, vessels, personal household effects and a stone sculpture. It's presented in the most interesting possible fashion so will appeal to all levels and has a comprehensive pupils' website available which offers interactive supportive learning to compliment the trip! This side website is a fantastic way of consolidating their learning on the subject but is also a great stand alone activity that's actually almost more fun than visiting! Though of course visiting first would give the kids a much better chance of passing all the challenges! Links to the interactive kids' site can be found throughour link at the bottom of the page.
Visits to places like this can really help with keeping kids interested in history: there's something a bit more special about touching the items and seeing them for yourself that affects one differently from just reading about it in school! So keep the kids hands on with history and you'll stand a better chance of continuing to charm their mind with times gone by. Good luck!
