Dating back to the 12th century, The Commandery, a glorious Grade I listed site was once known as St Wulfstan's Hospital.

During the English Civil War The Commandery was the battle headquarters for the Royalist army of Charles II during the decisive Battle of Worcester. It has changed owners many times over the past seven centuries, and has exciting stories to tell you and your family about power, greed, war, wealth, romance, death, society and industry.

When you visit, you may enjoy attending one of the short talks with demonstrations which include Medieval medicine and Civil War weaponry. You could even get dressed up as a pikeman!

You might prefer to explore this huge building with its many centuries of architectural styles with the audio tour, or test out one of the new activity trail backpacks (available from August 2016). There are historically themed workshops every school holiday too.

There is a full programme of activities and events throughout the year when The Commandery gets brought to life with characters from the past, costume, living history camps and themed games – make sure you check the website to find out about the next one!

You can also wander the beautiful Commandery gardens which include an herb garden growing Medieval herbs, and the tranquil canal-side gardens of 'Meemee' café, which are a perfect spot to watch the boats go by over a hot chocolate or soft drink.
