St Mungos Museum of Religious Life

The award winning St. Mungo Museum Of Religious Life And Art welcome families of every belief including atheism to explore inspiring displays of artefacts and stunning works of art that raise for discussion the importance of religion in peoples' lives across both the globe and history. Pleasingly open and welcoming they come at it from an angle of promoting understanding and respect between people of different faiths and of none, rather than aiming for solemnity or conversion. It's a lively place with fascinating contents and ever such of lot to learn! Pick up a Museum Mouse booklet at reception to help keep small ones interested.

You and the kids can practice open mindedness and find out all about some of the world's major religions, plus the more localised story of religious history in the west of Scotland. Some of their highlights include a magnificently crafted bronze sculpture of the Hindu God Shiva Nataraj (Lord of the Dance), a Dancing Skeleton from Mexico's Day Of The Dead celebrations and the firhgtening but helpful snake demon mask of Naga Rassa, who chases off illness and misfortune (also Hindu)!

You can also relax in the museum cafe, which opens out into Britain's first real Zen garden! (No area for motorcycle maintenance provided.) St Mungo's Museum also regularly hosts temporary exhibitions and a variety of events, from family-friendly activities to higher detail expert talks relating to current religious issues.

This friendly museum sits right across from the oldest house in Glasgow Provand's Lordship, and right alongside the medieval Glasgow Cathedral! So there's a rather spiritual but open minded triumvirate of educational goodness for you all sitting on each other's cape trims!
