Attraction Information
Pitlochry Dam is home to the famous Salmon Ladder where the fish may be seen in the viewing chamber during their ascent past Pitlochry Dam. In the Visitor Centre, find out why and how the fish make their epic journey from their birthplace in Highland rivers, out to sea and back upstream to spawn. Children and their families alike will enjoy The Salmon Story which tells the age old tale of the king of fish through computer and video technology.
Situated within picturesque Pitlochry Power Station, the Centre features interactive exhibits tracing the history of hydro generation in Scotland from its origins in the 1940s to its current £250m refurbishment programme. There are also opportunities for kids to design their own power station and find out how to help the environment by saving energy. Something we should all learn more about!
The Pitlochry Dam and Fish Ladder walk takes one past all the key elements of the experience with some great scenery and fairly easily navigated terrain. Best however for those who are pretty mobile and not ideal for toddlers or pushchairs for any real distance.
