Attraction Information
Roman Alcester Heritage Centre is a small but interesting museum that is run by a staff of friendly volunteers, who believe that the many treasures that have been unearthed in Alcester over the years should be on display.
With over 100 archaeological digs during the last 80 years, Alcester is one of the most investigated Roman towns in the country, providing new information about Roman life between the 1st and 4th centuries AD. There is a great reconstruction of a dig, where kids can handle and sort genuine Roman remains, such as pottery and other artefacts.
There is an amazing array of Roman objects to see, plus a chance to go back in time by trying on a toga or a tunic and meeting characters in Roman Alcester's Marketplace! There is also a trail for kids to follow, which only costs £1, and involves searching for clues and answers in the museum, then going out in Alcester and exploring it through a number activities. It takes about an hour to complete and is suitable for kids aged between 7 and 12 years of age.
