Attraction Information
Rhondda Heritage Park, based at the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery, Trehafod, is regularly voted one of the top heritage and cultural visitor attractions in South Wales by tourists and provides a fun and interesting day out for the whole family to enjoy together.
First port of call is The Visitor Centre which houses the Art Gallery, Level One Cafe, Gift Shop, and an indoor Period reconstructed Village Street displaying the commercial and domestic life of the valleys. Admission to this area is free except on special event days, which you can watch out for using the link.
The Black Gold Tour Features a fully guided tour with ex miner guides that take about 45 minutes, and involves multimedia presentations, a tour of the pit head buildings and a trip underground to experience the life of a coal miner at ‘pit bottom'! Tours are available at 11:15 and 13:30 daily. They're pretty popular especially during the school holidays so it is a good idea to book your tour before you visit.
Rhondda Heritage Park is also home to the Energy Zone Children's Play Area, which is a great and aptly named place to for the kids to burn off some of that bottled energy and have loads of fun! Features include a Zip wire, swings, a sand pit, slides, and a Toddlers Play Area. This bright and colourful outdoor play area is suitable for children up to 13 years of age, so happily you can bring your big jobs along if they're still the playful sort! Please note that there is an admission charge for the Underground Experience, and Energy Zone.
